Sinker not sinking as much as the last couple of years

Lost a couple of MPH on his fastball.

by Clutch16 on Jun 25, 2010 3:21 PM CDT up reply actions

maybe he needs to be out of control

"Well-behaved women seldom make History"---Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

by cooliogirl47 on Jun 25, 2010 3:21 PM CDT up reply actions

Again with the split stats

Z has never been good to start a season. This year, he had his typical rough start, then got moved to the pen, then got moved back to the rotation. In essence, we’ve made Z do exactly what he’s bad at for a longer period of time. It was the exact wrong strategy.

And to echo Clutch, a sinker that doesn’t sink will kill a sinkerballer. What makes a sinker not sink? Overthrowing it. When you start to lose a few MPH on your fastball, you tend to overthrow. That behavior carries over to your other pitches, which, for a sinkerballer, means your best pitch is no longer effective. With the rest of your pitches, it means less control.

In short, the harder Z tries, the less he succeeds. It’s the quicksand of time, a vicious circle – like the ghetto. (Thanks, Elvis.)

Enough said ! Any more questions ?

Zambrano has lost 4mph on his fastball, they can't figure it out.

Meanwhile Ramirez has a hand-thumb issue that requires him to find a new grip and re-learn part of his game. Somehow, it doesn’t occur to management that these two aren’t the same players they were when they signed huge contracts and therefore they must be viewed as #1 options regardless of performance.

I mean if a AAA pitcher shows up one year missing 4 mph off his fastball, he goes down without question.

He's (Zambrano) a grown ass man

I’m tired of him and this lack of accountablity. He sucks.

Maybe next year is finally our year.

Not a big Zambrano fan

But neither Lee nor Ramirez looked like they wanted to get their uniforms dirty on either one of those doubles.

Too be honest, it looks like the team has packed it in for the year. Some players look like they want to play and play hard. Others look like they’re in it to collect a paycheck.

yeah, but not all of them

throw temper tantrums and challenge their teammates to fights in the dugout.

That’s a type of class only Z has perfected.

by ScottT on Jun 25, 2010 4:01 PM CDT up reply actions

It's looked that way for a few weeks now

I feel for the guys like Marlon Byrd who are still out there hustling. Guys like Rami and Z. should be taking notes from him about how to be a professional.

My cable box keeps freaking out

It shuts off and turns back on and the TV goes blank. I need to get it replaced. But for this game it seems appropriate. Even helpful.

Who is going to want z or ramirez?

My personal secretary, SWL, called to inform menof today's incident.

I for one excited for this team to be blown up.

And we flew to Chicago from KC for the Taste of Chicago (or a wedding).

the only veteran anybody would want is Marlon Byrd

unfortunately, there is limited market for overpaid dogs like Z, Sori, ARam,andDome. Demp and Silva are performing, yet still overpaid. Free agents to be Lilly, Nady and Lee bring limited return (and only if Cubs pay the salary). I’m not saying trade Byrd, just suggesting he is the only veteran any team would want.
