Polish Night at Wrigley - August 17th
Jeszcze Polska nie zginęła,
Kiedy my żyjemy
Darn it all...as someone of Polish heritage, I would have loved to be there on this night, but I can't make it. My only other thought is that this reminds me of Bill Veecks promotions at Sox Park during the 70's. Is the attendance falling that much that the Cubs need gimmicks like this to get people in the park?

I would guess this was planned in advance of the Cubs sucking though

Me too.
I will be there the 16th though. I will have to check out the food choices at the Sheffield Grill. If the hat is red I kinda doubt I’d want it anyway.

So what do you do?
Bring your Brasso and a towel for free admission?
If the world didn't suck we would all fall off.

It took me awhile,
but I get it now. Brasso is a polish. It’s not an insult at all.

Hmmm.
I took it as a stereotype of the Polish cleaning lady.

Oh my-if that's the case, then I do find it offensive.
Didn’t think of that at all. I thought they just did a twist on it to be polish appreciation day rather than with the capital P.

I think you're right about that....the polishing, that is, I dont think it was meant in a negative way,
It went over my head either way :)

If this is an ethnic insult...
… you’d better think twice about doing it again. That’s clearly not allowed here.

I am afraid...
…discussions of any ‘ethnic nights’ will lead to the temptation of ethnic insults or jokes.

Temptations can be resisted.
I get the “joke” now. It’s not funny.

At least it's not an insult.
Although with my name I’ve probably heard every Polish joke on the block so I’m immune to insults and actually find most of the jokes quite funny.

Wow
First of all there was no intentiion of stereotyping anyone.
I have not and never will put ethnically insult anyone… Thats just the way I am, but I have to say I feel sorry for you folks that try to find an insult in every comment that is made.
I assumed that by using the brand name Brasso people would know I meant Brasso for polishing up stuff and with all the talk on this board about cleaning up Wrigley it seemed to fit.
If the world didn't suck we would all fall off.
oops... take out the put between never and ethnically
If the world didn't suck we would all fall off.
Thanks for the explanation.
I took your comment the wrong way.

Yep I guess you did
Funny, I get singled out to be warned about an admittedly lame joke about cleaning supplies and all the TWSS and stuff like that goes un-remarked on.
If the world didn't suck we would all fall off.
Trust me.
It doesn’t. In any case, apologies for that — you didn’t do anything wrong.

I thought your lame joke was kinda cute.
Maybe it would have worked better with a brand of nail polish. But who knows. That might have gotten somehow misconstrued as well. People can be so sensitive when it come to anything to do with race so when they didn’t get the joke…..well, I can see how it could be assumed that it might be a slur.

Thanks KC
Appreciate the kind words. LOL if I had done nail polish I probably would have been seen as being sexist

Weird Al should do the

Bleed Castro Blue
As much as I love Weird Al and think that would be cool,
he’s not Polish so I’d pick Eddie Blazonczyk’s Versatones. IMHO they are the best for Chicago Polish polka.

They are good...
But you should check up on my friend Eddie Korosa Jr. His dad wrote the “Baby Doll Polka” and Eddie Jr. plays all around the area.

That's cool.
I have that song on my ipod, but by someone else. I’ll have to check him out. Always looking for more polka music to add to our collection. It drives the kids nuts….although my daughter did confess that she’s starting to like it…shhh…it’s a secret…she doesn’t want her brother to know…she’s afraid he’ll make fun of her. Personally, I don’t see how they could not like it. I find it impossible not to smile when there is a polka playing.
