How much of a miracle it would actually take..
The cubs would have to go 48-18 to get to 91-71, while the cardinals would have to go 37-29 to maintain their current pace and hit 91-71. So, the Cubs have to be world class good almost no matter what. unless the Cardinals start playing like .. well.. lets face it – the Cubs – for the rest of the year.
by DisCUBbobulated on Jul 23, 2010 1:32 PM CDT reply actions
I haven't taken them seriously all year.. I just don't buy it. I think they are pretty mortal.
Though the lead they have over the cubs is big, I have a hard time believing that it would take more to pass the Reds thandthe Cardinals.

There's no way the Cardinals AND the Reds ...
will somehow forget how to play baseball.

If there was any reeason
to believe these players know how to play the game, Soriano just negated that. This team needs new leadership.
If a quality pitching start is 3 runs and 6 innings, then a quality hitting day is 1 for 4.

I don't wish injury on players....
… but it’s like their inviting it upon themselves. How many guys hurt their shoulders, break fingers, etc. Plus, when was the last time anybody won a sprint race by sliding into the tape?

I don't WISH an injury on him.
But I could care less if he got one. It would be the last time he slides head first into first base.

It's like the way Castro runs down the line
It looks like he’s already pulling up by the time he gets to first. He rarely runs through the bag down the line. He’s got this definite backwards lean as he crosses.

’twas intense.
I'd like to see

At least you guys..
..Len and Bob. I have to listen to the Cards broadcast. But I actually like Mike Shannon. I love listening to him and Santo reminisce after a game in St. Louis.
Go State!
Just looking at the Cubs offensive stats..
Soriano is really the most productive hittter – with 51 RBI’s on 17 HR and a pretty decent .872 OPS – not bad for a guy who hits 6th and has been behind some mendoza line guys a lot of the year. He also has not been thrown out stealing. I’d say he’s picked it up this year, and him, Soto, Bird, Castro, and Colvin are all doing a great job this year. But the lack of timely hitting is KILLING this team.

4 - tied for second behind riot's 16. the 2010 cubs are not deadly on the basepaths, but props to Soriano...
for being the only guy with a SB besides Colvin (2) that hasn’t been thrown out this year. That’s four free bases where he didn’t cost us anything trying.
