Around SBN: Indy 500: 'Greatest Spectacle In Racing' Set For Sunday

from the ESPN chicago story (includes my editing for brevity):

"...Ryne Sandberg did sit down with the pitcher when Zambrano reported on Tuesday.

"He was excited to be around. I had some words with him. I talked to him about being part of the team. We have a good thing going on here. We're in first place by a game and a half. We swept a doubleheader [Tuesday]. I wanted him to feel part of the team, but also let him know he could have a big impact on the young players here, showing how a major leaguer should go about his business and he was joining something good. He seemed to act like he was all on board and ready to get started and get to work and hopefully have a short stint here in the minors..."

In his HoF induction speech, he talked about respect for the game, and I think it is clear he works to instill that in his players, even those who are just spending a short time with the team.

Very cool. A nice approach by Ryno.

It would be interesting to hear the approach Hawk would have with him. I think after what he said to Hanley, his approach to Z would be a little different lol.

agree.

Many different types of managers are successful.

At the core...

the message from both of them is that you play the game the right way. Without exception.

I think I speak for everyone here when I say, "Wait, what the hell are you talking about?"

Z will come back again and say the right things

and the battered wives that are Cubs fans will take him back and say he really didn’t mean it, and it was their fault and they just need to be better fans.

I’m off the dysfunctional relationship. Z can go to hell.

You are most likely right about this, given our history with Z.

I’d have said the same thing, just probably used a few different words.

Z aside, this is another example of Ryno managing and teaching others how to play the game the right way.

Reading between the lines, I think Ryno wanted to make sure Z understood that under no circumstances would he (Ryno) tolerate Z acting like an ass in front of the iCubs. Good for him.

Christ, the Ryno lovers are unreal

I’m sure nobody else would have had the same conversation with Z.
