Mystery Team Claims Adam Dunn off waivers
(Disclaimer - this is old news (5 days ago) but I didn't see it posted and Dunn's a good discussion topic)
Wonder who it is? They'd have to pay $4 million for the rest of the season, but wouldn't have to trade talent to do it, according to the article.
This is OT to the Cubs, unless they're the mystery team, which is interesting but highly doubtful.

That's just fishing for a trade by the Nationals
Throw Dunn on the waiver wire, see who claims him first – worst teams in NL up to best, then AL – and then try to cut a trade. No way that the Nats were going to give him away for the $4MM in salary relief.

Got it... looks like the Dodgers might have nibbled on theat line a bit.
Just to keep someone else from getting him.. I have a feeling the Cubs are considering Dunn for 2011.

Hopefully it's more than "considering"...
it should be top priority!
Ron Santo - 8,143 ABs, .277 BA; 342 HR; 1331 RBI = NO Hall of Fame?
Brooks Robinson - 10,654 ABs, .267 BA; 268 HR; 1357 RBI = Hall of Fame.
Any more questions ?
Strategic claims probably happen often
Remember, if the guy clears waivers he can be traded. A team that does not want him traded to a competitor (SF?) would file a claim to prevent the trade. Then the player gets pulled back off waivers and no trade takes place.
Except if the waiving team wants salary relief.
In that case they might just say to the blocking team, “He’s yours.” This has happened before — Randy Myers to the Padres, for example, in 1998.
