Also in the Pioneer League is Jeff Fasero! He is a pitching coach with our own Boise Hawks!
Also, Tom Gordon is still looking to play. GETERDONE!
Wikipedia lists thousands of players who were once Cubs. They all have a story! Let's tell that story!

Barrett is in the Mets minor league system...

Saw DeShields as a rookie.
Playing for the Rockford affiliate when it was a Montreal minor league team. He ran like the wind and stole second and third each time he made it on base. Didn’t last long on that team, it was easy to see he would be in the Majors soon.

Who cares about DeShields?
Can someone please update me as to the current accomplishments of Les Walrond? Are his Doosan Bears heading to the postseason this year?
Adam Greenberg is still playing for Bridgeport Bluefish
an Independent league team. Having a very good year.
Matt Murton is batting .335 for the Hanshin Tigers.
The next Ted Lilly start is Thursday when he will face the Rockies in LA. I suggest you don’t click on the thread I plan on posting.

The scary thing is...
That you actually have given us several Matt Murton updates in earnest this year.
I have indeed
If he manages to win the batting title ( doubtful) I will report that to.

I, Jose Hernandez, fully endorse this thread.
Nowadays, I sit in an office thinking of my playing days with the Cubs.
Pickles Dillhoefer once had an awkward moment...

Glenallen Hill continued to be a bad-ass
he enhances the cool factor of the Rockies, nearly, but not quite, offsetting the complete anti-coolness of the presence of Don “Grimace” Baylor.
I think I speak for everyone here when I say, "Wait, what the hell are you talking about?"
Dude I bitch about this all the time.
I DON’T NEED TO HEAR AN UPDATE ON EVERY G-D PLAYER THAT USED TO SUCK FOR THE CHICAGO CUBS.
It doesn’t matter, the updates won’t stop.

Ex Cubs
Can someone please update me on the number of Ex Cubs on each of the WS contenders? We can use that to find out who to root for in October!
Remember, the team with the most ex-Cubs has the greatest chance of losing....

Here you go. NL first
Dodgers: 3 (Theriot, Lilly, R. Johnson)
Giants: 1 (Fontenot)
Padres: 2 (J. Hairston, Stairs)
Braves: 1 (Farnsworth)
Phillies: 1 (Gload)
Rockies: 0
Cardinals: 1 (Miles)
Reds: 2 (Edmonds, Cairo)
Mets: 2 (Blanco, Pagan)
Looks like the Dodgers are doomed. AL next.

AL ex-Cub list for playoff contenders
Yankees: 3 (Gaudin, Mitre, Wood)
Rays: 0
Red Sox: 1 (E. Patterson)
White Sox: 1 (Pierre)
Twins: 1 (Mahay)
Rangers: 1 (A. Blanco)
Two other teams on the fringes of contention:
Blue Jays: 2 (Downs, Gregg)
Angels: 0
The Yankees had Gaudin and Mitre last year… adding Wood? Who knows?

Didn’t the Braves have the Farns before he was with the Yanks? Guess it’s nice to see some teams that don’t learn like us.

I don't think Miles was ever a Cub.
I think he was a Cardinal sleeper agent sent here to create chaos.
They've had a number of those.
Rietz and Ziele come to mind.

Yeah, I'd go ahead and knock the Dodgers off that list...
They’re 61-60 and 12 games back in their division (8 games back in the Wild Card race).
I’d also knock the Mets off that list, as they are 11 games back in the division and 8.5 back in the WC race.
I do that sometimes with the movie "Rounders"

Tony LaRussa played in one game for the Chicago Cubs in 1973...
…I think we should update his progress as Cardinals manager every day! Seems like he’s doing okay…

Jeff Fassero...
… my old nemesis.
I was at an interleague game against Texas when Fassero lost the lead on a wild pitch. How do you sail a pitch over the catcher and to the backstop when your fastball can’t sail over 80mph? Is that even within the realm of Physical Law?
"Sometimes you eat the bar and sometimes..."
He wasn't a bad pitcher when he was younger.
Not great…but we surely got the worst of his career, since he didn’t pitch for St. Louis for very long. Yeah, it was awful to watch him enter a game…I actually felt bad for him, he signed a couple of autographs for me a few times because he was the only one willing to do so after a tough loss. He should have retired before we signed him.

The Cubs actually got a decent year out of Fassero in 2001.
2002, not so much.

It's impossible to blame a pitcher or player hanging on for more money
When a team is offering , for the most part. I blame the scouts for ignoring younger players that at least could suck with some potential to work it out. He wasn’t a huge factor since our bullpen was obviously bad enough we wanted him, but even in 2001 I knew we couldn’t count on him. Made it worse to talk to him face to face and see he believed in treating people well. Whether people bash me or not, I don’t like myself wanting to get rid of a nice guy, though I sure still do want him off the team.
