1st Out
Lee got his first out as a Brave over with.
I have a good feeling about this series. The Cubs should win at least one of these games.
At this point ...
I’ve got to wonder if the Cubs are trying to see whether they should bring back Kosuke next year, put Colvin at first and invest whatever free agent money they have in Cliff Lee.
I’m not saying I support this approach, and it still wouldn’t justify essentially bench Colvin (when he could spell Byrd or Soriano, neither of whom are hitting that well). My thought is that starting Kosuke is a directive from above, and benching Colvin is just Lou being Lou.
it could be that the want Colvin to
concentrate on being a 1b for a week before they throw him out there

If the front office has "directed" that Dome start every day, then it's another strike against them
Because Kosuke Fukudome is a below average Major league player
by HuskerCorner on Aug 20, 2010 1:36 PM CDT up reply actions
You will never hear or read me defending Kosuke Fukudome.
But the Cubs would have to eat about $10 million of his salary next year to get rid of him, and then pay an extra however million to Adam Dunn. They might figure letting Kosuke finish his contract, putting Colvin at first and waiting for the ridiculous first baseman crop available after next season is the best course with the limited funds available this offseason.
Like I said, I’m not supporting it. But I wouldn’t be shocked if they’re essentially trying Kosuke out to see if they could go that way. I doubt it works out, though.
I'm not saying they need to let Dome go.
But he does not need to be a starting player. EVERYONE knows what Dome can do. The answer is “not much”
Again, if they’re directing that he become a starting player just because of his contract, it’s another strike against the incompetent jackwad known as Jim Hendry
by HuskerCorner on Aug 20, 2010 1:43 PM CDT up reply actions
or it is trying to be financially prudent
so rather than throw millions away in a season that it will be a stretch to be in contention they might pocket the savings and go after Gonzo

Problem is, Kosuke's a lousy bench player.
They also might see him as the only feasible leadoff option.
Anyway, I’m just trying to figure out what the hell Lou is thinking. I know that we’re assuming he just doesn’t care, but I wouldn’t be surprised if something else is at work.
