August 19th Minor League Wrap
Josh was unable to write it today and the next couple of days, so I told him that I would fill in for him. No one can truly replace Josh though, and we hope he gets back soon. Without further ado....
Iowa Cubs
Iowa wins it in the 9th, 7-5 over Sacremento
Marquez Smith stays hot, going 2-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI. He now has 21 doubles and 35 RBI on the season.
Our favorite AAAA player, Micah Hoffpauir, went 2-4 with a strikeout. SS Matt Camp provided most of the offense with 4 RBI's.
J.R. Mathes started and went 5 giving up 3 runs(2 earned). He gave up 6 hits and walked 5. He should be called up immediately to the Cubs. (sarcasm)
Brian Schlitter got the win pitching 2 solid innings giving up no hits and striking out 1. He did walk 2, however.
Tennessee Smokies
Smokies beat the Braves, something the Cubs can't, win 5-4 in 10.
Guyer, Jackson, and Canzler all went 0 for, but all walked once. Canzler also had an RBI. Jackson stole his 15th base at Tennessee.
First Basemen, Blake Lalli, went 2-4 with an RBI double. His average is now .317 on the season.
Matt Spencer also had two hits, a double and a homer. He drove in 2.
Chris Rusin, i'm not sure if he is injured or what, but he only went 2 innings. He gave up 2 hits and 2 runs(0 earned) while striking out one.
A couple of new additions pitched well tonight, Ty'Relle Harris(from Atlanta) and Kyle Smit(from LA).
Harris pitched 2 perfect innings against his former team. He put up 0's. Literally, his stat line is all zeros.
Smit picked up his 3rd win since becoming a Smokie, he pitched 3 good innings. He gave up 2 hits, 0 runs, and struck out 2.
Daytona Cubs
Daytona pretty much shut down by the Blue Jays, lose 3-1
Daytona was held to 4 hits(LeMahieu, Reed x2, and Crawford--all singles)
They struck out a total of THIRTEEN times. Yes, thirteen, as in a one in front of a three.
Brooks Raley put up a good effort. He threw 5.1 shutout innings with 4 hits and 2 walks. He also struck out 4.
Peoria Chiefs
Peoria gets stung by the Bees of Burlington, 7-2
The top 2 hitters for Peoria(Hak Ju Lee and Logan Watkins) went a combined 0-8 with 1 strikeout.
Justin Bour went 3 for 4 with his 23rd double and 71st RBI.
Brett Wallach started and pitched pretty well for the second straight start after 2 bad starts to begin his career with the Cubs. He pitched 5 innings giving up only 3 hits and walking 1. But he did give up 2 runs, both earned, while he also got 5 bees to whiff.
Boise Hawks
Boise was off hanging with the Broncos at the blue turf.
Arizona League Cubs
There was an Esmalin Caridad sighting down in Arizona. Esmalin struggled pitching only two thirds of an inning giving up 3 hits and a run. He struck out one.

The whole
Cub nation was wrong on Caridad. From 8th inning setup in Chicago to struggling at the lowest level.
