August 20th Minor League Wrap

NOTE from Al: Added to the front page; thanks to Ryno G for doing this.

Back for the second day of doing the wrap.. here we go: Sorry for the late post..I fell asleep on my laptop as I was finishing it up last night.

Iowa Cubs

Iowa takes the lead late again, beats Sac town, 7-6

Marquez Smith continues his TORRID tear lately, with another HR and double today. He was 3 for 4 with that HR and double and walked twice as well. In his last 10 games he has hit .419 with 5 homers and 4 doubles. He's a confusing prospect though, to say the least, so i'm not sure he'd be worth a garbage time callup. Micah Hoffpauir, who should be the MVP of the PCL every year, was also 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI, and 2 walks..and NO strikeouts. Matt Camp and Bryan LaHair both had 2 singles and a walk.

Mitch Atkins started and pitched 5 innings and gave up 3 runs and struck out 4.

The Jeff's combined to get the decisions. Gray got the W pitching 2 innings with 3 hits, 1 run(earned), a walk, and a k.

Stevens got the save, pitching a perfect 9th.

Tennessee Smokies

Smokies tomahawked by the Braves, 7-4

Our favorite prospect, Brett Jackson, was 2-4 and scored a run. Guyer began a new hit streak today. He doubled and walked. It was his 29th double of the season. He also stole his 23rd base. His average is currently .329.

Blake Lalli provided most of the offense, at least of the run producing kind. Lalli was 2 for 3 with a HR and 4 RBI.

Craig Muschko started and pitched 6 innings of baseball. He gave up 7 hits and 4 runs(3 earned). He walked 1 and struck out 5.

Daytona Cubs

Daytona defeated the Blue Jays, 5-1

Junior Lake got back on track with a 2-4 night with a double and an RBI.

LeMahieu was 2-5 with an RBI and continues to hit with here..with a .317 average

Bob's son went 2 for 4 with a double.

Greg Rohan went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and an RBI)

Robert Whitenack pretty much shutdown the Jays. He threw 6.2 shutout innings with 5 hits and 4 K's, He's now 2-1 in Daytona.

Peoria Chiefs

Rained out

Boise Hawks

Boise got beatdown, 11-4

Pierre LePage was 3 for 4 with a triple and an RBI.

Ryan Cuneo also had a triple and an RBI, but he was just 2 for 4.

Dustin Fitzgerald started tonight, and set the tone for the evening. He struggled as did the rest of the Boise pitchers.

He gave up 6 runs, all earned, in just 3.1 innnings. He gave up 6 hits, while walking one and striking out 3.

Arizona League Cubs

Were off goldening their tans
