August 21 Minor League Wrap

NOTE from Al: Added to the front page; thanks again to Ryno G for doing this.

Josh should be back to write tomorrow night's minor league wrap, but he won't be able to post it until Monday, so be patient. Anyway..here is tonight's wrap...

Iowa Cubs

Cubs come back and win, 4-3

Robinson Chirinos went 2 for 4 and his hitting .318 so far with Iowa.

Oh and by the way..have you heard of Marquez Smith? He is going bonkers right now. He was 2 for 4 tonight with a 3 run HR. That makes it his 6th HR in just his last 10 games, and 13th of the season. Someone wants a vacation to Chicago this September.

Meanwhile, the guy that I would like to see in Chicago this September, Jeff Samardzija, started tonight. He had another quality outing. He threw 6 innings and only gave up 4 hits. However, he did give up 3 runs. He walked 3 and struck out 4.

Brian Schlitter earned his 13th save with a wobbly 9th. He gave up 2 hits and walked one, but no one scored and he finished it off.

Tennessee Smokies

Smokies do like the Cubbies and beat the Braves, 7-2

Steve Clevenger was the man tonight. He called the Braves before the game and ordered the 555 deal because he was 5 for 5 with 5 RBI. 3 of the 5 were XBH (2 2B and a homer).

Russ Canzler also chimed in with a solo HR. It was his 19th of the season. He was 2 for 4.

Our uber prospects played tonight as well. Brett Jackson was 1-4 with a double and a walk.

Chris Archer threw well tonight. He wasn't dominant with a lot of strikeouts like we're used to, but he pitched well..especially considering he kept his walks down.

He threw 6 innings, gave up 4 hits, allowing 2 runs, while only walking ONE and striking out three. Both runs came off a HR in the first inning. Archer was lights out after that.

Star-divide

Daytona Cubs

Daytona didn't even show up, loses 15-2

Junior Lake got back on track tonight. He went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. His avgerage is now up to .274.

Evan Crawford, acquired for Mike Fontenot, went 0 for 3 with 3 strikeouts. His average is .214

Dae-Eun Rhee was lit up tonight. He gave up 6 runs and only retired one batter.

Peoria Chiefs

Peoria comes back late, wins 11-10

All I have to say is that I can't believe no one takes this guy as a legit prospect..Justin Bour was a machine tonight. Bour was 3 for 5. He doubled (24th of the season) and hit a GS. It was his 12th HR of the season. He had SEVEN RBI on the evening. He has 78 RBI on the season. All he does is drive in runs. He is hitting .291/.388/.833 with 57 BB( he has struck out 83 times though). He's legit.

Hak-Ju Lee was also 3 for 5, but he didn't hit a GS or have 7 RBI. All of his hits were singles. Nothing wrong with that if that's what you're supposed to do..and he is supposed to hit singles. He scored twice and had an RBI. It was his 35th of the season.

Logan Watkins and a few others had multiple hits as well.

Frank Batista started and couldn't make it through 5. He pitched 4.1 innings and gave up 9 hits and 4 runs. He also walked 3 and only whiffed one batter.

Boise Hawks

Boise wins 9-3

It was a great night for the Cubs 2010 draft picks.

Pierre LePage was 4-5 with a double, triple, and 2 RBI. LePage has 17 doubles and 3 triples now.

Soto and Gibbs were both 2-5 with a double. Soto had 1 RBI and Gibbs had 2.

Harrington, like Gibbs, was also 2-5 with a double and 2 RBI.

Cameron Greathouse was absolutely filthy tonight. He fired 6 innings allowing only one hit. He walked only one, while striking out EIGHT. He received the win and his now 2-2.

While Greathouse had his best outing, Aaron Kurcz had his worst. He didn't retire a batter and gave up 3 runs on only 1 hit. He struggled with his command tonight as he walked 3.

Arizona League Cubs

Cubs beat the Giants, 4-3

Thanks for Doing the MLW

It’s enough trouble to get the boxscore links posted. It’s entirely another thing to give a detailed recap of all the minor league games in the Cubs system.

Agreed with you on Bour

I have no idea why he doesn’t get any hype at all. I’m not saying he should get Brett Jackson hype, but Bour can really hit, and he hits when it counts. I hope the Cubs take notice.

No one

on this site seems to like him besides me, and now you. I don’t understand it, but they don’t like him.
