Harry Carried To New Home

Here is the Harry Caray statue in place in its new home outside the main bleacher entrance at Waveland & Sheffield. Workers were finishing putting new bricks in when I took this photo about 11:30 this morning.

It'd be pretty funny if one of those workers was named Jack...

…seeing as how they’re building a new brickhouse for Harry.

Groan.

Did you know that a top HS pitcher is named Bryan Brickhouse?

I hope the Cubs draft him when he’s eligible. I don’t think he’s any relation to Jack.

And I don’t know why the top of that page says “Lacrosse”, either.

And, also...

… despite the spelling “Brian” on that page, his name is spelled “Bryan”.

Could have been worse

I was thinking about have my picture taken next to the big heavy equipment trucks because I know everyone here wants to see “Crane Kenny”. But I decided against it – even bad puns have standards…

You're doing well today, sir.

I didn't believe it last August, but it turns out that love survives.

Does anybody know...

Did they have to move any more pavers for this? I know the Captain Morgan Club displaced some.

Nope.

All the pavers are still exactly where they were.

Wonder how much this all cost?

I’m neutral about where "Harry’’ should be vs. "Billy’’ but Cubs have made quite an investment to give Williams the more prominent location. Had to cost five figures to move ole Harry. I guess Dutchie’s not too upset, Where will "Ronnie’’ go? Near the new triangle building? that leaves “Ryno” and he’s gonna have to wait a while!!

Going to be awful crowded at that corner

Will we hear more of a drumbeat to ‘plaza’ that corner?

Call me crazy...

…but I think it makes a lot more sense to have the statue situated there than where it was before.

I like this position much better than by Gate D

Harry was in an odd spot by Gate D. He was off to the Addison side of the street and just close to the low railing dividing the sidewalk from the Captain Morgan club.

By the Bleacher entrance, Harry appears to have more of a symetrical position on the corner.

It also positions the Wrigley mockup into proper context with the actual ballpark.

Seeing it there makes me wonder if it wasn’t intended to be there from day one.
