Home Runs By Position
I was thinking about how we look at certain positions as power hitting positions so I thought I would compile the home run totals by position for all of MLB this year. Here are my findings. I doubled the # of homers for the DH position since the National League does not have the DH. Here is the spreadsheet: http://www.mysportsscoop.com/cubs/homer.xlsx.
| position | # | % |
| 1b | 728 | 0.16 |
| rf | 626 | 0.14 |
| lf | 579 | 0.13 |
| dh | 544 | 0.12 |
| 3b | 512 | 0.11 |
| c | 460 | 0.10 |
| cf | 444 | 0.10 |
| 2b | 369 | 0.08 |
| ss | 327 | 0.07 |

Still no pitcher. Z, Gallardo, Josh Johnson are 3 I can think of off the top of my head that hit some this year.
I still think it's critical to have a power hitter at first for next year.
This is only the beginning....Lou Pinella end of '07 season and Chicago Transit Authority (the band when they were really good).
a first baseman with power
not a bad gloved OFer with power IMHO
Chronologically inept since 2060
