Good for him

If he can make it back, that’ll pretty much be the ultimate comeback story.

A pitcher who had a career like Prior's...

… was Curt Simmons, who was a fireballing lefthander for the Phillies in the early 50’s. In 1952 at age 23, he had a year not too far off what Prior did in 2003.

He hurt his arm and slogged through a few bad seasons and then missed most of two years (1959, 1960) trying to come back.

In his early 30’s he had three very good years for the Cardinals, winning 15 games in 1963 and 18 in 1964. He was a big part of the reason the Cardinals won the pennant in 1964.

Prior has missed a lot more time than Simmons did. If he can come back even as a relief pitcher, that’s a heck of a story.

do it

as a reliever mark. thats your best shot.

I just wonder...

…. if his Dad is finally out of the picture or at least has quit interfering with his son’s development and career. Because you can lay most of Prior’s problems right at his doorstep. If his Dad is still screwing with him, then Prior won’t make it. Period.

Good for him!

I hope you make it, Mark. I’ll always have a soft spot after 2003, and it’d be nice to see him make a successful comeback, even as a relief pitcher.

I seem to remember

Al’s “before” and “after” pictures taken of The Employee at Fitch Park. One set was taken in his “glory” days and then, much later on the comeback trail.

His thighs were noticeably smaller in the second set of pictures. How could that…be?

I’ll let others fill in the blanks on my supposition, or perhaps we should ask Roger Clemens how he would describe the 2 sets of pictures.

Al, you should post those pictures again.

OK...

… here are the photos. This one was taken on April 2, 2006:

This one was taken on March 16, 2007:

Neither photo was from “glory days”. Both were after the injuries. I make no judgments here, simply provide the photos. Draw your own conclusions.

2 Very Different pictures and 2 very different profiles

I’m sorry but there is no conclusion that can be made by these two pictures. And can we stop with the towel jokes? It’s a little stale.

I was asked to repost the photos, so I did.

Agreed on the towel jokes.

I see no difference.... seriously.

And these pictures aren’t very similar from the viewpoints they were taken.

IMO, if somebody wants to bring back up the Mark Prior PED theory, these sure as hell aren’t pictures where you can argue it.

i dont know about that

here is a perfect quote on his calves

Prior’s teammates at USC nicknamed him Calfzilla because of the fact that he had massive cartoonish calves. Now all of the sudden, they’re gone. Now before you say “Come on…his calves get a bit smaller and you accuse him of steroid use?” you have to keep in mind that his calves were bigger than most apartments in my neighborhood. And now, they’re nothing.

it would not surprise me at all, but either way I truly dont care. Cheating goes back to day one of baseball, and the greatest cheated, so why worry about a broken down flash in the pan pitcher
