I’m only familiar with him from the Ken Burns’ Baseball documentary. He was one of the most entertaining commentators, IMHO.

I just saw a bio on him about a month ago. One of the things he said was whenever he’s been asked to throw out the first pitch he’d say only if he can pitch the game, and that’s one of the reasons he’s still pitching.
