Dempster Foundation Fundraiser Features Lil' Ed And The Imperials... And Justin Berg

Next Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Buddy Guy's Legends at 700 S. Wabash, the longtime Chicago blues band Lil' Ed and the Imperials will perform at a benefit for the Dempster Family Foundation... and they'll be joined on guitar by Cubs reliever Justin Berg. From the press release:

Berg, 26, is a native of Antigo, Wis., and an accomplished guitar player who can also bang on the drums in his spare time.

The event is also in honor of the 40th anniversary of Alligator Records and the 25th anniversary of Vine Line, the monthly magazine of the Cubs. Showtime is 9:00 p.m.; tickets are $15 and all proceeds from the event will benefit the Ryan and Jenny Dempster Family Foundation. The night will offer a silent auction, as well as a live auction featuring autographed guitars supplied by Sam Ash music stores.

Lil' Ed is always a blast!

That should be a fantastic show. Ed has enough energy for three people and can really play the stuffing out of the guitar. I hope Justin Berg can keep up with him.

Yeah, I know there should be an apostrophe in "Vails," but punctuation wasn't an option when I signed up.

I wonder if...

…Justin Berg holds a guitar as awkwardly as he throws a baseball.

If he does...

…he might be the first guitarist to need Tommy John surgery.

Yeah, I know there should be an apostrophe in "Vails," but punctuation wasn't an option when I signed up.

Or would that be Tommy Bolin surgery?

Let's hope for the people attending he plays guitar better than he pitches

Ha, I was waiting for someone to say this.

Not that I’d argue, of course. Berg came as advertised with a great groundball rate. Almost everything else was pretty awful.
