ALCS Game 3: Tigers vs. Rangers, Tuesday 10/11, 7:05 CT
Jim Leyland might have cost the Tigers Game 2 when he put Ryan Perry -- who had a 5.35 ERA in the regular season -- in the game in the 11th inning Monday instead of Al Alburquerque, whose season ERA was 1.87.
Granted, that's not the entire story, and Alburquerque had already given up a grand slam this postseason (to Robinson Cano), but could it have come out worse?
The Tigers are home for (at least) the next two games, but they really have to win this one; going down three games to none means it's pretty much over, the 2004 Red Sox notwithstanding.
Full details on tonight's game after the jump.
Game time for Rangers/Tigers: 7:05 pm CDT. Rangers lead series 2-0. TV: Fox. Announcers: Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. Yes, McCarver will be back tonight, despite the outstanding job Terry Francona did filling in for him. Doesn't McCarver need more rest?

I just got back from the grocery store
and a photo of the Tigers’ offense was printed on a milk carton under the heading “MISSING.”
Won’t you please help locate it?
Thank you.

While it’s hard to disagree in hindsight Al, I trust JL.
And frankly, if any of the Tigers could hit a lick with RISP, it would have been a Tigers victory long before extra innings.
Same goes for game #1. Hit a lick with ducks on the pond, woncha’ fellas?
Good thing this is a seven game series and it’s back in Motown. Losing Young won’t help. But ya’ gotta play with who ya’ have. Go Andy Dirks?
Sigh.

Maybe Ndamukong Suh can sack him on his way into the ballpark.

I thought you were going to say...
…you saw Theo Epstein.
Baseball is pitching, offensive production, baserunning and defense.
I saw in at the bottom of my bowl of cereal this morning!

Good one. The Tigers need it
and some better pitching too. I want them to win, but when they keep loading up the bases with 0-1 outs, you’re just asking for a grand slam or a 2 run double or so.
Seems like the Rangers have these Tigers by their tail.

Not so fast! The Tigers live to fight another day.

Game 4 says no.
What happened to the Tigers?

Injuries. Lack of hitting with RISP.

From Keith Law:
Andrew Cashner’s first seven fastballs: 98, 97, 96, 99, 99, 98, 100.
There's a game at Wrigley tonight?
How did I miss that? ;)

I know. Kidding.
Good for Cashner! Glad to see he’s doing well.

I still have high hopes for that kid.

Hoping to catch him in person in an AFL game one of these days.
McNutt looked real solid last Friday when I was there.
Post a scouting report if you're up for it!
It’s always interesting to read how those guys are doing.

Boston Herald says Epstein is on the brink of joining the Cubs.

Where have you gone, Kiko Calero. A nation turns its lonely eyes to you.
Yes. The topic of discussion on Comcast Sports Net tonite
The question is for what player(s)? Talk, and only talk, surrounded Marshall, Garza, Soto (unlikely), Brett, and/or Cashner. There were a coupla others but they seemed longshots.

How fast will
people’s joy turn to horror if… ahem, IF, Epstein becomes the Cub GM, but then announces he has confidence in Quade and wants him to manage the team next year?

Quade or Epstein?
Or the Cubs get Epstein, who in turn gets Epstein, and the Cubs fans suddenly find their team has been renamed the Blue Sox.

Epstein, who in turn gets Francona.

This reminds me...
Would Cubs fans be willing to sacrifice their team’s name and maybe their colors if it might guarantee/boost the odds of the Cubs/ex-Cubs getting to and perhaps winning a World Series?

Al Alburquerque
hasn’t pitched well since coming back after suffering a concussion during the regular season. He might’ve had just as hard a time as Ryan Perry did.
The Tigers’ offense tends to get cracking when Austin Jackson is getting hits like he did last night.
ALCS
Ken Rosenthal needs to put away his little calculator and interrupting the broadcast.
