NLCS Game 5: Cardinals vs. Brewers, Friday 10/14, 7:05 CT

Randy Wolf of the Milwaukee Brewers reacts after he hit a double in the top of the third inning against the St. Louis Cardinals during Game 4 of the National League Championship Series at Busch Stadium on October 13, 2011 in St. Louis, Missouri. (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)

I'm getting real tired of looking at the Brewers' "Beast Mode". Look at that picture! Even Game 4 pitcher Randy Wolf did it after hitting a double. Despite his last name, Wolf looks like a dork doing it.

So you'd think I'd want the Brewers to lose. But if they lose, that means the Cardinals win and Ryan Theriot gets to go to the World Series. That's a thought too terrible to contemplate. "Right side of the rivalry", hmph.

What to do? Nyjer Morgan? Ugh. Lance Berkman? Yuck. CAUGHT IN INFINITE LOOP!

So I guess the best idea is to simply wait this series out and hope the winner gets crushed in the World Series by either the Tigers or Rangers.

Full info on tonight's game after the jump.

I'm with you Al. Can they both lose?

I think the Brewers make me sicker. But I could never support for the Cardinals. I gag and throw up a little in my mouth every time I think of either one of these teams in the world series.

I'd rather see the Brewers Beast at the WS than Theriot,

he would turn into an egotistical Beast of the Cardinal kind, if he got there. ugh

I have the same problem

However, LaRussa and The Riot trump all the guys I don’t like on the Brewers, so I’m grudgingly pulling for Milwaukee even though it will be almost unbearable to see Commissioner Bud celebrating if they win. The only consolation there is that at least he doesn’t own them any more. I definitely agree with JOVE23 on the desirability of the choices here.

Yeah, I know there should be an apostrophe in "Vails," but punctuation wasn't an option when I signed up.

I'd rather see Albert hit a walk off HR against the Brewers

Have everyone gather at home plate, recreate the “Prince Fielder Bomb” that they did against the Giants, everyone stand up in beast mode. That should put Tony Plush and gang in their place.

Pretty tough for the road team to hit a walkoff, though

And while I’ll be at Camp Randall tomorrow (until it gets out of hand) and I want to root for the Brewers, I just can’t do it.

Still cheering for Tigers vs Brewers.

Either way, this is an all-central time zone World Series, baby. COASTS BE DAMNED!

late starts for one (horrible) Cubs season. Lemme see the WS in my time zone! (preferably w/o The Riot)

Hmph.

I honestly never knew that. Does that make sense? The same time zone for Detroit as Rhode Island? Really?

Screw Ryan Theriot.

Either the Tigers or the Rangers can kick the Brewers asses on the way to a World Series victory.

by Dcr18 on Oct 14, 2011 6:12 PM CDT reply actions

Both options suck!

It’s like asking if I’d rather be kicked in the groin by Robbie Gould or Adam Podlesh.

Or if I’d rather watch Pirates of the Caribbean 2, 3, or 4.

Either way….it sucks!!!!!

by cubfanwill on Oct 14, 2011 7:42 PM CDT reply actions

If Theriot makes it to the Series

I might find perverse pleasure in watching him TOOTBLAN and screwing it up for the Cards. Otherwise, perish the thought.

by Emelie on Oct 14, 2011 7:45 PM CDT reply actions

There's no contest:...

…Chicagoans have way more in common with Milwaukeeans and Wisconsites than St. Louisans and Missourians. Plus, the you really have to consider the Brewers the underdog even though they won the division. The Cards stupid “mystique” is hard to overcome: LaRussa, Pujols, blah, blah, blah. So, go Brewcrew!

Times like this, I'm glad I follow baseball primarily though the radio, because I've never seen this "beast mode" nonsense

…therefore, it’s very easy for me to cheer for the Brewers :)

(also, I have too many good memories of seeing games up there, both before and since their move from the American League to the National League)

by MarchHare on Oct 14, 2011 8:02 PM CDT reply actions

I hate the Cardinals as much as any Cub fan should,

but, the beast mode thing makes me sick to my stomach. I hadn’t watched many Brewer games this year, but when I saw that nonsense against Arizona, I was getting physically angry.

I generally make it a rule to root for the playoff teams that have waited the longest for a WS, which would have meant Rangers and Brewers for me, but I can not support that team. The beast garbage and the planned celebrations are the worst display of sportsmanship I’ve ever seen. As much as it hurts, I have to say Go Cardinals.

by HectorVillanueva on Oct 14, 2011 8:12 PM CDT reply actions

agree Hector with everything you stated

Old time rivalries always include some level of respect. The brewers show none with their beast crap, and so deserve no respect. “Trees and Forest,” Milwaukee.

I would think you would like something that helps build team unity and fun.

We would all love it if the cubs were doing it. Itd mean they are doing something right.

A two-out double by the pitcher and he does this? Way over the top.

LaRussa's teams just compete like crazy

the guy has an ability to get his team to compete and he is so on top of the game. He has complete and total control of his teams. He takes Garcia out and Dotel gets Braun. It’s stunning the dominance he’s had in St Louis. Saw this in the St. Louis Post Dispatch, LaRussa’s playoff wins since he’s been with the Cards compared to the rest of the division. This should make Cubs fans sick the success of our biggets rival compared to us.

1. St. Louis 44

2. Houston 15

3. Chicago 6

4. Milwaukee 5

5. Cincinnati 0

6. Pittsburgh 0

by MikeJW on Oct 14, 2011 8:49 PM CDT reply actions

scary thing is all of of our playoff wins came in 2003

stunningly pathetic, this franchise has by my count 9 playoff wins since 1945! That’s bordering on impossible, it’s mind boggling the ineptitude and how our fan base is so huge. The franchise has been so horrible for so long when you break it all down.

David Kaplan just tweeted
Just spoke to a GREAT source on the Theo compensation talks. Red Sox are asking for an insane package of players. Cubs are saying no way.

And

2 MLB sources told me that Cubs should say no to any unreasonable request. Tell Boston your best offer if they say no then call their bluff

There’s no way Boston is taking him back.

Red Sox are really coming out like dickheads after this month.

They get away with a ton by standing in the shadows of the Yankees and looking good by comparison.

Fielder can't hit left hand pitching

he has been exposed, terrible against LHP, sorry, no way I am spending huge money on him. Spend elsewhere.

by MikeJW on Oct 14, 2011 9:49 PM CDT reply actions

Fielder has a .799 career OPS versus LHP

This year, it was .822. I’d say he does well enough against them. I wouldn’t use such a small sample size as the NLCS to write him off. Especially when you note his .988 career OPS against RHP.

Yeah, I'm kind of the same way.

I hate seeing the Brewers win. But then, I hate seeing the Cardinals win.

Could we just cancel this series and send, say, the Nationals to play in the World Series?

If only so I don’t have to hear from Cardinals fans.
