BA Top 20 Southern League Prospects 2011
Brett Jackson moved up to 4th after being ranked 8th last season. He's the only Cubs prospect on the list for the Southern League. Here is how other Cubs fared in other leagues:
AZL: Marco Hernandesz (6), Gioskar Amaya (9)
N. West (A-): Reggie Golden (10), Pin-Chieh Chen (14), Zeke Devoss (17)
MId-West (A): Matt Szczur (8)
FLO. (A+): Matt Szczur (9)

He also is 8th or 9th for the PCL.
And is the only Cub to make that list. Kind of highlights how weak our upper minors are right now.
It is true
that we don’t have enough top prospects in the upper minors. However, it’s quite a compliment to Jackson to be #4 on that list. That Southern League list is loaded.
Even having said that, I like Jackson better than Goldschmidt.
If Cubs had made the playoffs
Jackson totally would have hit a grand slam last night.
I kid. :)

Happy for the guys on those lists... but it is also telling there's not a single pitcher.
Upgrading the high upside arms in the system needs to be a major priority for the Cubs.

Hence the bonuses
in the Draft.
I'm a Cubs fan. The Jaded Bitterness comes as a Standard Feature.
Yeah, this year's draft class is pretty important
Need at least a few of those overslot guys to pan out. And we need to continue to be on the higher side of the draft spending list.
For sure.
Though they picked more position players than pitchers (at least from an upside perspective).
We definitely need investing in the draft to become a pattern.

The Cubs picked a bad time to "rebuild"
It would have been awesome to have a top 5 pick last year or this season. Next year might not be so great.
There's still some pretty impressive talent at the top for next year.
Not like the 2011 draft, but still very impressive.
FWIW
I believe the Cubs will be picking 6th in the next draft. They tied for the 5th worst record with SD & KC. I believe KC will pick ahead of the Cubs while SD will slot in behind them (tiebreaker being previous season’s record).

It really is crazy seeing how stacked that league is...
I think Goldy is ranked too high by a bit and I’d probably slip Parker into that spot, probably keeping Jackson 4th. Grandal at 9 seems a little low to me too, but I’m not sure what i’d do with him.
