I could really careless about these two.

I'm just posting news.

One of my grammar nitpicks: you meant “I couldn’t really care less”.

I know. Just getting tired of the filler in the organization.

And your right about the grammar. My bad.

'Never look down on anybody unless you're helping him up.'

Well, the fact that these two have been outrighted to Iowa...

… that says the process is beginning.

Actually, it says the opposite

Rather than just cutting ties completely with two useless players, the Cubs assigned them to Iowa. Unless this is some kind of required move because the Cubs still owe them health coverage, it isn’t a good sign.

That was my initial perspective also.

It doesn't really matter.

Someone has to eat innings at AAA, and we aren’t exactly loaded with upper level pitching prospects. Anyone else would just be the next Berg or Schlitter. Now if these two are ever added back to the 40-man, then we’ll have problems.

by Dcr18 on Oct 5, 2011 10:06 PM CDT up reply actions

I think you're reading a little too much into this

Berg is a minor league free agent as a result of this move anyway.

by Mulhollandmania on Oct 5, 2011 11:10 PM CDT up reply actions

Eh.... someone has to throw at Iowa.

You have to fill the organization somehow. I don’t think anyone is penciling these guys in for a long look in Mesa. It’s essentially a zero investment – you can always cut them later if/when more bodies arrive who are capable of throwing in Des Moines. In the meantime, they’re off the 40 man, no harm done.

Just for kicks

who is making these decisions at this point? Is this Randy Bush making these calls?

Just curious… they seem like “no duh” moves, anyway.

Don't worry, folks.

You can still catch Justin Berg layin’ down some mean blues licks at Buddy Guy’s every other Sunday.

Baseball is pitching, offensive production, baserunning and defense.

I think...

… some here will be more excited to hear Hill has been let go, than a new GM has been hired.

Any sign of the regime change

Whether it be signing a new GM or purging the team of poor players who were the favorites of the previous GM make me happy.

Seeya Jimbo! Good job, Tommy Boy!

Here's a question...

What would make a longer list…the guys on the 40 man roster who should remain OR the guys on the 40 man roster who should go?

or the ones we'd love to 'send off'

but can’t without paying for them anyway.

Didn't both of these players have TJ surgery this season?

If so, the Cubs are on the hook for their medical expenses (workman’s comp) so they might as well keep them in the org.

Every day is a beautiful day for baseball!!

Hm, good point.

I think I read recently that Berg did.

Yes, that's correct.

Don’t know about Schlitter, but he was hurt at some point in 2011.

I heard Schlitter

missed the entire 2011 season with an elbow injury.

Berg just had that TJ in September and is likely to miss the entire 2012 season.

Dear Great Pumpkin, I am looking forward to your arrival on Halloween Night. I hope you will bring me lots of presents.

Schlitter

Had been claimed by the Yankees and then the Philles before he was returned to the Cubs by the Commissioner’s Office because he was injured.

Essentially, MLB ordered the Cubs to pay for his rehab and salary this past season because he was injured.

This isn't worth a new fanpost

But Brad Snyder has filed for free agency. I know we’ll miss him.
