Bobby did well on TV.
He probably has another career waiting for him.
I found it curious that Bobby estimated Yu would win 10-12 games for the Rangers in 2012. That is alot of money for what is essentially a third or fourth starter on a championship-level team.

I think players...
… like many of us, are going to have to get used to the idea that the “wins” stat for a starting pitcher means almost nothing these days, with almost no complete games and the large bullpens teams have.
Darvish could “win” 12 games and still be a very effective pitcher.

I saw this yesterday.
I was going to post something, but I’m glad I waited since I wouldn’t have had this video.
I thought Bobby Scales did very well on TV. I can’t remember ever hearing him talk before. I would not be surprised to see him on MLBN if he doesn’t wind up coaching as others have alluded to.
Do you think a career AAA guy could land a MLBN or ESPN job? I wonder how they compare a playing career to pure talent of speech.
Sure
Jose Mota has had a long career as a broadcaster for the Angels. Scales might not start out on the MLB Network, but I bet like his minor league career, he could work his way up.
Scales is well-liked and has a good baseball mind. (You have to be to have a minor league career that long. They don’t put up with you with that kind of talent if you’re a mean idiot.) I’ve wanted him to manage in the Cubs system when he retires, but going into broadcasting might be a good career choice for him too.

I hope he does come back and manage in the Cubs system.
But you’re right, broadcasting might work well for him too. IIRC, he’s been a teacher in the offseason before, so public speaking (of a sort) is something he’s already done.

Hadn't seen this.
Interesting that Darvish did Nippon Ham a favor by going through the posting process now. He still would’ve been pretty valuable as a 27-year-old starter had he waited.
And Bobby Scales is wise to do stuff like this. He’s very well spoken.
