Semi-OT: Hendry ready to return to MLB action
Bruce Levine has been criticized over the years as someone who relied heavily on Hendry for information. This story -- and the fact that Levine's number of scoops have fallen pretty far with the new administration -- would seem to back up that criticism. Key line:
Hendry has talked to numerous teams about returning as a top lieutenant in a major league front office, according to major league sources.
If I were a cynic, I'd say attributing this to "major league sources," and not Hendry himself, would be a great way to potentially gin up interest in Levine's old friend among other baseball teams.

You can be cynical
and I have no opinion on Levine’s tactics.
But I’d be surprised if Hendry didn’t get another job in a front office as an AGM soon. He’s got too many friends in the game.
I think Hendry would be a valuable asset to a front office as an advisor or AGM
He definitely knows a lot of people and seems like a solid person who people like to work for and be around. His leadership skills come from his willingness to create opportunities for people he deems worthy but there is definitely a downside to his unrelenting loyalties to when things aren’t working out.
Everyone in baseball
has seen what he did to the Cubs—3 straight years and counting under .500 with one of the NLs top payrolls, and a below average farm system to boot.
He may have friends, but he is going to have trouble getting a position of authority in baseball anytime soon, imo. Perhaps he gets a “special assistant to the GM” job, which could be a face-saving title for Hendry, but I just don’t see him being respected in baseball for the job he did.
On the other hand, half of baseball teams haven’t changed their managment philosophies since about the 1940s, so who knows. Maybe being a good drinking buddy will be enough to get him work.
It seems his greatest asset is how well connected he is.
So I’d think some sort of special assistant to the GM job where they could best utilize that attribute would make him appealing to someone. Maybe contacting and sitting in on negotiations with FA’s. I certainly wouldn’t want him evaluating talent.
Theo! Good job, Tommy Boy!
Let's Hope
That Jimbo gets a GM job within the NL Central soon!!
Maybe he can be the Cardinals' new VP in charge of plate discipline.
Where have you gone, Kiko Calero. A nation turns its lonely eyes to you.
Levine has been in bed with Hendry
for a long time. Based on his track record here….no playoff wins in a major market for nine years and the horrible baseball ops disaster he left Theo you can bet that Jim is finished as a GM, I would guess he’ll be a scout somewhere……
"Special assistant to the GM"
… is more likely.

Im guessing some cush job like Ed Lynch
sitting somewhere like ARZ for 81 games a year.
