Holy Crap! Literally, Says Dusty Baker
I swear, I am not making up this part of the article, quoting Baker about something that happened near the end of his managerial tenure with the Cubs:
"At the very end, somebody took a dump right where I stood in the dugout every day," Baker said Monday morning. "That was the low point. The grounds crew guy cleaned it up. He said, ‘Oh, I think it’s dog crap.’ I said, ‘No it ain’t. That’s human crap.’"

It is just wrong to do that!
"I lof to hit de home ron!"
oh crap!
It could have been a goose…they take huge dumps. who the heck could have gotten into Wrigley unseen to do that?

Neifi was traded by then.
But it’s a funny thought.
Suuuuuuuuuuuuuure that happened.
Jesus man, you won the division last year. You were a bad manager who took a sure World Series trip in 03 and peed it down you leg. You got fired.
You got a job for an organization that is (finally) being run better than the club you were fired from. Get the EFF over it.

While I agree that Dusty should generally get over it ...
I don’t think he’s making this particular story up. Seems too weird. Just my opinion.
I think Dusty is a bit weird :)

Oh, definitely.
But I don’t think that’s something you make up.
not to make a thing of this but...
I dont think he made it up, just formed a strange conclusion about it.

And my opinion is that Dusty desperately wants to be perceived as a victim during his time here
Why is this the first anyone has heard of this incident? Why wouldn’t a story about someone taking a dump right where he stood have been reported over the last four or five years.
I just don’t buy it. There may have been poop, it was probably animal feces. I think over the years, he has become ever more sure that it was human waste.

OK, I can see THAT.
But a story out of thin air? I don’t see it.
Well, I would still say I don't understand why if he was so sure this happened
why it took him five years to tell this story. Lord knows he’s whined and moaned about all the other supposed injustices that have happened to him. I have a hard time believing this story “slipped his mind”

It's an excellent question.
But I don’t think he completely made this up.
your sig line goes well with this post :)

I've heard of the sh*t hitting the fan ...
but this is ridiculous.
I think he is making this shit up....
Maybe it was Prior for ruining his career?
It would be cool if there was pieces of Sosa’s busted boombox in it….

I don't even know how to react to this.
On the one hand, it’s really hard to believe a human being would do that. On the other, I don’t see why or how Dusty would or could make something like that up. Are players even allowed to bring their dogs into the dugout and on the field? Really weird.

Somebody was clogged up on the bases
but not in the dugout!
I think if they would have sent it away for analysis...
…they’d have found little toothpick pieces in it. The man is just holding a grudge. 5 years later and he brings it up now? Was it Lou marking his new territory?

Dusty need serious help.
At this point he’s just making things up. We are supposed to believe someone (the racists who were caling him!!!) broke into wrigley field every day and took a dump in the dugout. First I dont think anyone can dump on command like that and second i doubt its that easy just to break into wrigley every single day and go take a dump in the clubhouse. Someone should have the guts to call him out on it.
Somehow, someway
This will come back on Moises Alou

Eh.
It was news all over yesterday. Had to at least post the link. Most people here have been pretty clean — and funny.

"Don't complain to me about the stormy weather, boys. Just bring the ship into port." --Steve Stone, September 2004
He's obviously lying. Dusty NEVER stood *anywhere* in the dugout.
If someone had taken a crap on the spot on the bench where he sat, comatose, for his entire tenure, then sure, I’d understand. Message received, phantom crapper.
But… there’s no way that Dusty stood in any particular location often enough for it to be HIS SPOT that someone could choose to defile.
Especially not in 2006. I don’t think I saw Dusty move during the 2006 season.

Based on what I've seen..
..from Baker over the years, using his Son as a human shield during the end of the ’02 world series and at the end of the ’03 playoffs Hiding behind charges of racism when it became expedient for him to do so. Never once did Baker produce a single piece of evidence of racism aimed at him. It leads me to believe this and everything else is made up.
I can't stand Dusty. But I think it would be naive to think that a black player or manager
who runs afoul of Cub fans doesn’t face at least some racism whether it be in comments from the stands, letters written with crayon etc… The city and most of the country has come a long way since I grew up in the 60s and 70s but racism is alive and well with what is thankfully a dwindling percentage of people.
The way i read the article
it inferred it was a fan. If it was a ballplayer isnt that an even bigger indictment of him. You’ve really lost the clubhouse when people are literally taking a dump on you.
The purpose of the article is about
how there might be a romance with Quade now but the fans can turn on your quick. Case in point Dusty Baker. And then Dusty goes into his story. The author also writes this happened at the same time he ahd racist remarks said to him. So the author is inferring its the fans which is beyond ridiculous. Its just not possible for a fan to break into wrigley every day and take a dump. Security isnt that bad. You cant just jump on the field.
So if this story has any credence and it doesnt then it would have to be a player. And dusty would never tell that story because he’s supposed to be beloved by all his players. His quick to tell anyone that.
You're reading something into it that isn't there.
If the writer had written about that, then sure, maybe it would be a fan. But this is a direct quote from Dusty. I don’t see how you make that inference.

Maybe I'm naiive.
I can’t imagine a situation where anyone would make up something this weird — and this specific. I’m not a Dusty apologist, but wow.
I can think of many situations where someone has absolutely blown up a situation and added inaccurate details
in order to make the story more interesting. You’ve really never heard or seen that?

Well, as I said above ...
I can see him exaggerating, absolutely.
Let's get the grounds keepers take on the story(if he exists)
He would probably reiterate that is was nothing more than a pile of dog crap and Baker accused the dog of being racist.
it was an artistic representation of dusty's managing ability

You'd think a grounds crew member would have talked about THIS
Not buyin’ it, Dusty
"For the charming if somewhat curious branch of mankind known as Cub fans, spring is a sanguine time.. Every spring holds the blithe hope that perhaps this is the season in which Satan will grow weary and ease up on the headlock in which he has diabolically held Chicago's mightily struggling National League baseball team since 1908..." Lonnie Wheeler- "Bleachers"
The article was more about Dusty
than about Quade. Dusty is pulling his tired old act of shifting blame. Nothing new here except the crap, which probably came out of Dusty’s vivid imagination.
I think it means he's a crappy manager.

I don't know why anyone wouldn't think a player did it
I mean, it was well-documented that Ron Swoboda took a dump on a Sparky Lyle’s birthday cake in the Yankees clubhouse, which was revenge for Sparky Lyle sitting butt-naked on every cake in the Yankees clubhouse.
Let’s be frank here. There are many major league ballplayers who behave like a 12 year old would if you gave them millions of dollars, a six-pack of beer and sent Mommy and Daddy to Europe for a year.
Looking over the roster of the 2006 Cubs, there’s one name that sticks out as a jerk who might do something like that. (And no, I’m not talking about Zambrano.) There were a couple of other guys who were also well-known for having odd senses of humor, too.
I think you & I are thinking about the same player.
I won’t post his name here, though.

Weird story
and even weirder if Dusty pulled this story out of his…

Someone
on the tribune board said it was Scott Eyre. Not sure if true or not.
DEJESUS!!!
hah...
Wow! I heard this on the radio this morning but I thought he was saying that as a figure of speech not that someone was literally taking a dump in the dugout. They didn’t talk about the guy cleaning it up saying it might be from a dog and Dusty’s reply. That’s messed up. I never really understood the hatred for that guy. He took a Cubs team that was really sort of a surprise in 2003 further than Lou ever did with MUCH better players and yet people LOVED Lou. Dusty was been a successful coach everywhere he’s been. You can’t argue that.
It was..
