He sounds like a very troubled man. Seriously, I wish he'd get help.

This is sad
Not addressing his anger is costing him his family and I hope that this is the final straw that gets him to try to change before he seriously hurts someone or himself.
I have an amazing plan to betray our new friend!
Very, very true.
It is sad to see anyone self destructing.
If the Cubs still have a chance, no matter how small, it’s still Go Cubs, damn the math and pass the KoolAid.
ordinarily, the woman should wait until his guaranteed contract pays out fully
and then file for divorce. That would be my advice. The fact that she wants out before he collects 2011’s $10 million shows that she really needs to get the hell out of there. He’s kind of an ass.
ask not what the Cubs can do for you - ask what you can do for the Cubs.
They live in California
… a community property state. She’s entitled to half his assets.

not bad at all. but wont there be more assets after the season?
on the other hand, there is plenty of money available now. take the money and RUN!

This might not be settled until after the season is over.

A guaranteed contract is very likely still considered an asset
Even if the divorce were finalized today I wouldn’t be surprised if she wouldn’t be entitled to some of his 2011 pay.
Not if there is a prenup
which you can rest assured there is.
Also worth noting that the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office to date has not filed any charges in the abuse case.
But, what I want to know is…where are the BCBers that strained themselves silly defending Milton Bradley when he was with the Cubs?
You know, the one’s that kept saying Milton was misunderstood, and that the Cubs were responsible for his behavior, etc etc. Seems like AndrewStone and Drew were the main Bradley apologists,
Well, Drew just had a kid.
So he’s probably preoccupied.
GM's are in charge of Managers, not the other way around.
Oh, I see Drew already posted in this thread.
So that answers that. AndrewStone? Frat party.
GM's are in charge of Managers, not the other way around.
I laughed, I cried.
Well done.

They are probably hiding in the same cafe that you go to when someone posts something that flies in the face of something that you shout from the rooftops.
Why, exactly, are they obligated to comment on this?
by Shanghai Badger on Mar 5, 2011 10:57 AM CST up reply actions
I never said
they were obligated to comment. I simply asked a rhetorical question.
Nor do I feel obligated to respond when someone is just being snarky or obnoxiously argumentative.
Were still here
And I still stand by Hendrys decision to sign him. Statistically he was clearly the best choice for the 2009 cubs. Nobody ever said he was a perfect person, or even a good person. Thats not what should matter when signing a player.
And I do believe he wasnt exactly given a great chance to succeed here in chicago. It seems a lot of people around here were looking for him to flip out so they could say they knew it was coming.
All that said I hope Milton gets help, because when he’s right, he’s a really good baseball player.
Nobody ever said he was a perfect person, or even a good person. Thats not what should matter when signing a player.
Yes, it should. Because you saw firsthand the disruption he caused in the team. No team needs that, and the individual involved wasn’t that good a player.
Statistics are important. But they are not everything.

OK
I didn’t mean that it shouldnt matter at all, I just meant It shouldnt be considered nearly as much as the statistics. Chemistry within the team doesn’t mean much unless you’re winning games.
It’s easy to say they didn’t play well because they didnt get along. But it doesn’t make it true.
this is true for many players
And I do believe he wasnt exactly given a great chance to succeed here in chicago. It seems a lot of people around here were looking for him to flip out so they could say they knew it was coming.
in one season alone, Gregg, Bradley and Miles were all ripped before they put on a Cubs hat. and it has happened numerous times as well

i agree to an extent
sometimes a player who isnt happy go lucky can be a great addition, and one of the best examples is Wilber Marshall (yes i know its a football example) but he was the attitude the Bears needed and so did the Redskins team he won another SB with. Dan Hampton spoke a lot to this when the Bradley signing took place

With something like this
I don’t think money would matter at all. Just keep those boys and herself safe. This is so sad.

This is just her account in a divorce filing
She’s not going to be looking to make him look good. That’s not to say he didn’t do it, but she does have an incentive to embellish.
2 kids are involved. I hope for the best that this can be settled quickly and without a lot drama. Of course, Milton’s track record here doesn’t necessarily predict that will happen.

Yeah I agree with you.
I was wary of posting this myself but with her not going to the hospital from this incident (whatever it was) who knows what really happened there. With an incident like this she certainly should have gotten the police and gone to the hospital so she could protect her children. She certainly has no reason to make herself look bad. He definitely has a long history of instability and horrible judgment so it’s probably for the best she leaves since she wants out. Thank goodness we no longer have that train wreck around the neck of the team…things like this certainly put Silva acting up into perspective.

Technically, you don't get SUED for divorce
but I suppose the semantics don’t really matter. As a family law attorney, I feel obligated to point this out. ; )
Sorry for the language confusion.
It is a suit brought in a court, right? What would you call it?
Check out Chicago sports coverage at SB Nation Chicago
I actually might need to apologize.....
as whatever state Bradley’s wife filed in might recognize “at fault” divorces, in which the dissolution (divorce) action might technically be considered a lawsuit. A lawsuit only occurs when a plaintiff incurs some form of loss from the action (or non-action) of a defendant(s). My state does not recognize “at fault” divorces, and thus they are never lawsuits, merely petitions to the Court asking that the judge dissolve the marriage; divide the marital estate and establish a parenting plan (if children are involved). “At fault” divorces are a whole different ball of wax (thank God my state did away with these). In these types, one party accuses the other of some marital misconduct, and if they are successful in proving the misconduct in Court, they are many times entitled to a larger share of the marital estate than they would otherwise be. It is actually kind of similar to a tort action, and thus, might actually constitue a lawsuit.
Sorry for this lengthy, rambling, and terribly boring post, just to say that I might have been the one using the wrong language. I honestly am unsure, as I don’t practice in an “at fault” state.
Thanks for explaining.
I do actually think you are correct — “petition” would probably be the better word in a legal sense. In a colloquial sense, people do understand if you say someone gets “sued for divorce”, plus it fits better in a headline.

When I see the word "sued" used in this way
I can’t help but feel for poor Merkle. It’s weird seeing your name used as a verb. ;-)

It's a petition
She filed here in California. It hasn’t been assigned to a courtroom yet. According to the LA Superior Court website, she filed a proof of service on him 3/3/11. Interestingly, the petition lists a previous case between them that was just dismissed in December.

Wait, Milton Bradley has problems with...
…anger…denial…is bi-polar…troubled…possibly dangerous…blames everybody but himself for his issues? This is the first I’ve heard of this.
