College of mediocrity still a possibility for Tuesday vs. Rockies
Hope we score 10 runs because we're going to need every single run.

It seems that
ignorance is unlimited among our brain trust.
If a quality pitching start is 3 runs and 6 innings, then a quality hitting day is 1 for 4.
To say the least.
It’s really a horrible idea. And I hate to keep throwing Russell & friends under the bus because it’s not their fault it’s an horrible idea. Mike Quade is mostly to blame for it.
Did I mention this is a horrible, horrible idea?

If we're going to keep it up
we might as well DFA Diamond, as that is why he’s around.
first
of all this team cant score 10 runs. they seem to be just as bad as last years team.unless they bring someone up samardzja will probaby start. russell was a bad idea to begin with.
According to this cubs.com article, it probably won’t happen:
The Cubs have yet to name a starter for Tuesday’s game against the Rockies, and manager Mike Quade said prior to his club’s 12-2 loss to the Dodgers that he wasn’t sure if left-hander James Russell would get another start.
Quade said he wanted to meet with general manager Jim Hendry and assistant general manager Randy Bush first, as well as talk to Triple-A Iowa manager Bill Dancy and Double-A Tennessee manager Bryan Harper.
I agree with all of you that starting Russell again is a really bad idea. Let’s hope they make the right decision and NOT do it.

I hate to always be negative about the current Cubs leadership
but this is pathetic. Next week will be the third start since Cashner’s injury and they still don’t have a solution. I’ll give them the first start since they lost two starters at the same time. However by the 2nd and now 3rd time around they should have some solution. It’s going on three weeks and they knew that both Wells and Cashner were going to miss significant time.
This team is not good enough that they can afford to essentially give away 2 and now potentially 3 games.
John Grabow: $4.8 million in 2011.
It's more than those starts
It screws up the bullpen for the other games, too.

Very true.
The fact that it’s going on 3 weeks and they can’t find someone who might be able to go 5 innings is sad. They need an answer this week and it can’t be “Let’s try another reliever”. What if Wells is out another couple of weeks? Would they go a 4th start with no answer. Hendry needs to find an answer. He needed one for start #2 knowing there would be at a minimum a start #3.
John Grabow: $4.8 million in 2011.
I don't understand
Do they still think it’s a good idea? I really hope Randy and Cash get better… fast.

Quad Quote
“If we have another option, if we have someone who is ready, I’d like to explore that,” Quade said. “Everything’s on the table still until we take a closer look at it.”
Not a good idea
Just bring up someone to eat some innings, if nothing else.

Jay Jackson, maybe?
Tuesday would be his normal day and if he could go 80 pitches and get 4-5 innings out of it, that would be better than hitting the bullpen in the 3rd.
Possible
But I don’t know that Jackson has completely built up his arm strength yet.
See if Thomas Diamond makes his scheduled start tomorrow. If he doesn’t, he’s getting the call.
Austin Bibens-Dirkx will also be rested by Tuesday, as he last pitched on Wednesday.

Those are "options in the known universe who are not Russell"
I hope team management is considering all of them.
There are
known knowns; there are things we know we know.
We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don’t know we don’t know.

With Coleman's blowup yesterday, this really can't work
Now that Jay Jackson is back at Iowa, there’s really no reason not to bring him up other than not wanting to start his arbitration clock for Super Two status.
IF they’re going to go Russell-Shark-Berg-Grabow-Mateo on Tuesday, they may as well start the entire bench as well.
It's a simple question, Doctor: would you eat the moon if it were made of ribs??
Bad idea. Bad, bad idea.
