The operative portion of this is a bit down the page. Az Phil is always the best at keeping track of who needs to be added to the 40 Man Roster to avoid exposure to the Rule 5 Draft. These additions must be made in November for the December Draft. The reason this is important is that, while we have some players (especially relief pitchers) that we wouldn't miss much, for each guy we add to the 4o Man that we don't need to, that makes the November choices that much tougher. Brett Jackson and Trey McNutt are not on the list. That means they can be left off the 40 Man without us losing the in December. For those who don't want to read the list, I am highlighting 11 guys on Phil's list that perhaps should be added, ranking them *-*** with *** being obvious adds. But since everyone wants to add 'this guy or that' to the 25 man roster through the year, this adds a bit of realism to the call-up process. Thomas Diamond should be the next to try the fifth (seventh) starter position, as getting 8 outs from a starter is a bad idea at best. If Diamond fails, he becomes an easy November release.
