Chicago Cubs vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Preview, Thursday 4/28, 8:40 CT: A Trip To The Warm

Here's the National Weather Service forecast for the Phoenix area today and tonight:

This Afternoon: Sunny, with a high near 93. Southwest wind around 9 mph.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 67. West southwest wind between 5 and 11 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.

Wow. Just stop and look at that for a moment. On a day when it's been 48 degrees outside my Chicago window pretty much all day, it makes me feel a little warmer just looking at that forecast. I don't know whether the roof at Chase Field will be open or not tonight (it was for the D'backs day game vs. the Phillies yesterday), but I'm guessing every single Cub (yes, even you, Matt Garza) must be real happy to get out of this nasty cold windy biting drizzly weather that refuses to let Chicago out of its grip. No game time temperature at Wrigley Field yet this year has been as high as the forecast low shown above.

Cubs lineup:

Fukudome RF, Castro SS, Baker 2B, Ramirez 3B, Peña 1B, Byrd CF, Colvin LF, Hill C, Dempster P

Hmmm. This is the same lineup (except for Dempster) that was supposed to start Wednesday's game vs. the Rockies.

D'backs lineup:

Young CF, Johnson 2B, Upton RF, Drew SS, Montero C, Mora 3B, Branyan 1B, Parra LF, Enright RHP

Ryan Dempster is off to a rough start; his eight home runs allowed lead the National League. That said, his "best" (and none of them have been great) start of the year was probably April 5 at Wrigley Field vs. the Diamondbacks. He lost, but threw seven decent innings and did not allow a home run. Doing that tonight would at least keep his team in the game.

Barry Enright started against the Cubs on April 5 at Wrigley Field. The Cubs won the game, but Enright got a no-decision. He did allow a homer to Tyler Colvin, so there's that. Enright has given up at least four earned runs in all of his starts this year, and in his last outing allowed 12 hits in 5.2 innings... to the Mets, not an offensive juggernaut.

His Strike out per 9 is 8.5 and his bb/9 is 3.5

Those are almost exactly like last year but his hr/fb is 22.2%, twice as much as last year. Also his babip is little higher.

I am not sure if it’s bad luck, stupid mistakes, or Quade leaving him in to long.

Hello Clutch

There’s some chatter around that Demp is tipping his pitches (esp Curve?) by what he does with hand “on hip”…your thoughts? I haven’t noticed it, but I’ll watch for it.

I’m seeing a lot of stuff that stays up in the zone, especially on the second time through the order. I don’t blame Geo, but it’ll be interesting to see if that’s the case tonight with Hill behind the plate.

Does something..Quade,seems nice funny great guy to talk baseball with, but not a Cubs coach. We need a guy who coaches and doesn’t look to make friends. Your benched if you suck if you make 800 or 8million. This lineup is great if were in first place and haven’t had any rest..I guess we aren’t sweeping this one.

Hope so.

I don't always block shots, but when I do....I block yours.
