Cubs Announce New "Bleachers Only" Promotions
Monday games - Free t-shirt. The first one will say "PASS10N" in honor of Ronnie. Not a bad promo is you ask me. What will the t-shirts say later on in the season? I'll leave that one alone.
Tuesday games - Select beers are just $3. Al, I suggest you bring your rain parka because with college bleacher tickets going for $10, this could turn into a real vomit fest.
Wednesday games - $1 hot dogs. Bet the seagulls are psyched although it appears they prefer pizza.
I wonder what's next...buy a bleacher seat get a chance to be the 5th starter? Actually, that's not a bad idea...

Use any of the following discount codes
Wildcats
Blue Demons
Ilini ( I think that is right)
But they are not $10 , they are half off plus fees.

maybe the cheap beer will help to ease the pain of watching this team
it is difficult to believe that they would discount beer prices in the bleachers, which historically has been home to the worst behavior in the park.
I'll have more to say about this in tonight's pregame post.
Suffice to say for now that discounting beer prices in the bleachers is a bad idea.

what's worse?
discounting beers or discounting tickets? I think you need to put up a poll!!

These are minor league fan promotions. The Cubs already do some of this with Bobblehead Nights.
They can also try-
Dollar Deal Day.
Two-dollar Tuesday.
Thirsty Thursday.
Friday Fireworks
Sunday ‘Funday’ Kids Day.
Theme nights (Ladies Day/Night, ’70s, ’80s, ’90s night, Jersey Shore Night, Yooper Night, Bark in the Park, Grateful Dead Night, etc.)
Oh, and DEFINITELY ‘up’ security on $3 beer nights. It can get ugly.
There are 108 beads in a Catholic rosary and there are 108 stitches in a baseball. Who says baseball isn't a religion?
They should probably up security.
They won’t, but they should.
GM's are in charge of Managers, not the other way around.
Exactly.
Not only that, the opponent for the first game where they’re going to do this is… the Cardinals.
This will not end well.

The Tuesday night discounted beer games?
All of them.
That’s right, every Tuesday home game for the rest of the year is a night game. There are 10 Tuesdays remaining.
To repeat: this will not end well.

This is crazy
When I graduated high school 1998 I seem to remember beer being either $3.25 or $3.75.
This is cheaper – whoa
"Hey.....Cubs win!!!" ---Harry
"Swung on belted!!!"---Chip
Well, they COULD use smaller cups.
But then, it’s not really discounted, is it?
Check out Chicago sports coverage at SB Nation Chicago
Well this is like a 60% discount so if
its 120z instead of 160z its still a deal.
"Hey.....Cubs win!!!" ---Harry
"Swung on belted!!!"---Chip
Any time I've been to a stadium that had this type of promotion
The cups were smaller. I haven’t been to Wrigley in a while, but most stadiums have 16 and 22 oz cups (I think?), and then for the promotion they drop them down to 12. So even though it is cheaper, it requires people to spend more time in line to get less beer.
GM's are in charge of Managers, not the other way around.
I wonder how upset the beer vendors are
They must lose money – you would think this is only for beers from the tap.
"Hey.....Cubs win!!!" ---Harry
"Swung on belted!!!"---Chip
Oh I'm sure it is.
Having beer vendors shilling out three dollar beers would be Bleacherpocalypse.
GM's are in charge of Managers, not the other way around.
no beer vendors
in the bleachers…a few stand behind the concession stand…maybe not for Tuesdays

Dislike.
We lose some sales, sure. More importantly, it makes for that many more alcohol incidents that we, like most others, want to avoid. Each drunken brawl or puker or person pissing in the seats makes us look bad.

That puzzled me at first as well
because I never once thought badly of the beer vendors for any drunken behavior I have witnessed. However, on thinking I can’t help but wonder if some people that are more apologist in nature might be looking to blame someone or something and find it easy to point their fingers at the beer vendor and accuse them of over serving or something. Yep, I’m being cynical again.
Fasten those seat belts...
the Texas Stars have $3 beer nights
and the beer is about half sized, so its still a $6 beer so to speak

THE CAKE WAS A LIE!!!!!!
THIS is it….this is the thing that has 100% convinced me that Ricketts does NOT have a clue!!!! I have lost all hope for the future of this organization. Yes I’ll always be a Cubs fan, but the honeymoon with the new owners is over.

not tickets, discounting beer for night games, in the bleachers....
if they can be that clueless about how much trouble this can cause, then I have no faith that they’re any smarter with anything else.
There are probably a handful of places in the city that sell beer for $3. I’m sorry but this screams “dont sit at a bar and watch the game, come to the bleachers and buy MY beer.” no this wont end well

If you can get tickets for like 5 bucks
and beer is 2 bucks cheaper then across the street – might as well go even if you dont like baseball.
It is officially making the bleachers a beer garden.
"Hey.....Cubs win!!!" ---Harry
"Swung on belted!!!"---Chip
it is not a beer garden....really I like a drink as much as the next person,
but that’s the whole idea, its a BALL PARK! not a bar or beer garden!

you know that video of Ricketts dad really got to me...
that was such an juvenile thing to say…Wrigley sells win or lose. This now wreaks of college mentality not a mature business mind.

What we're seeing on the field is a byproduct of that thinking.
Dollar hot dogs, three buck beers, 10 dollar bleacher tickets…all proof that they’re beginning to realize that they were wrong.
GM's are in charge of Managers, not the other way around.
you're right. to me this all seems a bit desparate, do you see it that way or no?

They brought on the desperation themselves.
2009: Throw out bums like Hendry and Kenney? Nah. These guys seem OK. Let’s keep the good ol’ boys club going and just count the cash that rolls in.
2010: Wait. You mean they don’t show up, win or lose?! Oh boy. OK, let’s discount some Bleacher tickets.
2011: They’re still not showing up?! Oh man. OK. Um. How about some minor food and beer discounts to go along with the discounted tickets?
All this could have been avoided by simply cleaning house & hiring good baseball people from the start. Standard reactive business thinking, when they should have been proactive. Typical.
"They sell every ticket to every game, win or lose!" - Tom Ricketts
I agree with magicballs.
They did a lot of stupid stuff that many of us disagreed with, and now they’re in this mess. So they desperately need to do something, and this is one of the ways they’re going to try and salvage this season.

I dunno, I'm trying a wait and see approach.
I like cheap beer, so this is cool to me. I understand everyone’s concern, but I’m interested to see how it goes.

It makes me personally want to go to one
I don’t even drink beer

At the end of the day, the Cubs need to get people into the seats.
I’m pretty annoyed with the product on the field, but I don’t begrudge them for trying to get people in the seats.
GM's are in charge of Managers, not the other way around.
Oh, absolutely.
But there have to be better ideas.

they could do
$2 cigarrette pack night.
$12 bong night.
$15 Heroin night.

That'd probably hurt attendance at the next game.

You know...
I won’t go into my personal thoughts as to what or why, but when the club reaches the point where it has to discount food and drink to put people in the Wrigley Field bleachers, there are some things seriously wrong.
I cannot disagree with what you have said here.

Yeah...I'm sorry.
But this is such a stupid idea that it even got to me. I love the Cubs. I hate to see them make such a dumb mistake. I can see this potentially being a source of embarrassment.

I would only hope
Ricketts and company take another long hard look at the cheap beer promo . Nothing good will come of it . Did they also lose any common sense they once had ??
Something tells me that many would be canceling anyways...
…so why not try to make as much $$$ as you can before they do so. Remember, the waiting list is well over 115,000 people long! Cough…cough…
The only way i can see any thought process to this is they said
screw it. Why pretend the bleachers are anything but a party. Lets truly be the “bud light bleachers” and endorse the wild reputation. Lets get crazy.
I mean they have to know whats going to happen right? I’m not sure whats worse: that they endorse all this or truly dont see whats going to happen. There either incompetent or irresponsible. Probably both.
Where was that disastrous beer promotion held..
..where the fans got totally out of hand? I think it was in Cincy where they gave fathers free beer on Fathers Day or something like that. Anyone know what I’m talking about?
$3 beers? This seems like a really bad idea; both from a security perspective as well as the “family environment” thing. OTOH, a GREAT idea to sell more tickets.
