Tonight, I was reading Rob Neyer's article on American League contending teams "wish list" from 5/29/11. Here's what he has to say about the Oakland A's:
Oakland Athletics (27-27, -1.5)
Hey, here's an idea ... Find somebody who can actually hit. First base? Disaster. Second base? Disaster. Third base? Disaster. Designated hitter? Disaster.
The Cubs have a 1B (Pena) they could use. They have a 3B, too (A-Ram...I know about his option kicking in if traded, but, worth checking out, right?) They also have all kinds of DHs (Pena, A-Ram, 'Dome and his .450 OBP and Soriano...NO, I'm NOT smoking the good stuff) Cubs have a couple 2Bs, as well (Baker and DeWitt).
If I was Hendry (and thank God I'm not, cuz you guys are just plain brutal on GMs here), I'd have Billy Beane on speed dial. The A's, as of tonight, are dead last, 2.5 games out of 1st place, in a very winnable division...the Cubs are dead in the water. I believe Hendry should help the A's achieve their goal. What do you think? Should the "Fire Sale" begin already, or not? I believe it's time...but, that's just me. I've watched alot of baseball in my years and I know a bad team when I see one...and I hate to break this to ya, but...the Cubs are a bad team.
