How fitting the first 3 game sweep is done by the Astros.

Go ahead, release your anger here. Spew the vitriol, go on a tirade.

I think we have finally reached the bottom.

The Cubs have been bad for a while, that’s for sure, but it has all finally culminated with the 3 game sweep by the only team in the NL Central with a lower record than the Cubs. It is only a matter of time before we trade places in the standings with the Astros I think.

Racing to post this?

You might be the right person to answer “how low can you go?”

"Wait, are you saying I'm a sunshine-pumping, koolaid-drinking, Soriano-loving, rainbow-rising, unicorn-riding, double-clutching, Sweet Lou-backing, Hendry-supporting, hey hey whaddya saying, Cubs are going all the waying, glass is overflowing, Rothschild is all-knowing, Cubs fan? - ballhawk

It's baseball...

…and you can get swept by anybody at anytime.

With that said, this team is not good!

So where does Byrd end up?

Does some team make a big play for Marshall? How quickly will the Cubs move to buy out Aramis?

by cubswynn on Jun 1, 2011 4:24 PM CDT reply actions

Byrd: Nowhere, won't be back until mid July.

I’d rather part with Marmol then Marshall. And Aramis will need to start driving the ball if any team is gonna look at him.

by MDavis on Jun 1, 2011 4:26 PM CDT up reply actions

So long as we keep Castro and Barney

then I guess I am okay with blowing everything else up.

by adam316 on Jun 1, 2011 4:27 PM CDT up reply actions

One of the few if only

players on the Cubs who plays the game fundamentally well/correct. You will hear Bob Brenly mention this occasionally on the broadcasts. Also he seems to come through with RISP more often than anyone else.

by adam316 on Jun 2, 2011 8:53 AM CDT up reply actions

I don't disagree...

and I like Barney, but to lump him into the same category as Castro is insane. Barney has zero pop and never walks… those guys are a dime a dozen.

by kanderber on Jun 2, 2011 1:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Trade deadline is July 31st I believe.

He’ll be gone.

I didn’t say Aramis would get traded. I’m saying the Cubs will eat the $2M buyout in the offseason and send him on his way.

We keep saying 'blow up'

When the Cubs can only get rid of Koskie, really. The Ramirez situation has been mentioned time and time again here. Soriano is not going anywhere, neither is Zambrano.
Byrd, a tradable part is injured.

This "let’s blow it up’ isn’t going going to happen.
Bench vets and play youth, that can happen. But that’s about it, folks. This ain’t fantasy baseball.

by San Diego Smooth Jazz Man on Jun 1, 2011 4:53 PM CDT reply actions

And Quade is not about to bench the vets

Sad but true. This organization has been built to fail.

by Ace Venom on Jun 1, 2011 4:58 PM CDT up reply actions

Pena possibly

Pena could have a little bit of value for somebody looking for a platoon DH or a PH/defensive replacement.

Other than that, there’s not much to trade. Assuming Koske and Pena get traded on July 31, you’re really only sitting Ramirez and Soriano. You have to keep playing Byrd in hopes of a waiver wire deal.

It's a simple question, Doctor: would you eat the moon if it were made of ribs??

by Invalid User on Jun 1, 2011 6:20 PM CDT up reply actions

I could see the Indians possibly being in on Pena.

LaPorta is not too good defensively and Hafner is constantly injured. would they take on his salary though is the question.

Rammy if he can show SOME power, could be possibly moved to someone liek the Tigers or Rockies. Regardless of the option. Those types of things can be worked out so who knows.

Byrd will be hard to move now with the injuries and not being back til July.

Kosuke i think could actually be moved.

And i still believe Soto should be dangled there for the right price.

by MDavis on Jun 2, 2011 11:23 AM CDT up reply actions

Kosuke can probably be moved, IF

… the Cubs pay the entire contract. I can’t see anyone paying even a portion of it.

Fukudome has a .375 wOBA

He’s not really slowing down this year… He may be worth 4M to a team at the deadline.

I think your right...

…very few tradable parts here and thats just the way it is.

Got To Continue to Build the Farm System

The Cubs do have Castro, Barney, and Campana as homegrown products that have come up in the last year or so. The farm system needs to continue to improve. It’s in a better situation than it was 20 years ago, but the farm system still isn’t good.

2011 - The 103rd time is the charm.

by memphiscub on Jun 1, 2011 5:07 PM CDT reply actions

Really?

Castro is a blue chipper.
Barney is Theriot, Jr.
Campana is Doug Dascenzo.

It’s not to say that we don’t need role-players like Barney and Campana, but let’s not oversell them, shall we?

I think I speak for everyone here when I say, "Wait, what the hell are you talking about?"

by Ross on Jun 1, 2011 5:22 PM CDT up reply actions   2 recs

Seriously.

The love for Campana is silly.

"Pounding sand since 1982...."

by cubswynn on Jun 1, 2011 5:41 PM CDT up reply actions

That's How Bad It Is

The team is so injured and bad that Campana almost has to play. Castro, Barney, and Campana from ascending to descending order are at three different skill levels. It’s just when I think about players the Cubs have brought up since May of last year that aren’t injured, those three are the ones that come to mind.

2011 - The 103rd time is the charm.

by memphiscub on Jun 1, 2011 5:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Right.

It’s also probably due to the lack of a speed for so long.

"Pounding sand since 1982...."

by cubswynn on Jun 1, 2011 6:03 PM CDT up reply actions

Campana is Tom Goodwin

If he can hit just a little bit (Goodwin’s lifetime slash line is .262/.332/.339), he might have Goodwin’s career – 7 years as a starter, 7 as a backup.

Somebody will always trade for a #3/#4 OF with speed.

It's a simple question, Doctor: would you eat the moon if it were made of ribs??

by Invalid User on Jun 1, 2011 6:24 PM CDT up reply actions

Of course...

Campana could also be Chad Meyers.

Only playing time will tell. Let’s hope that if the season is otherwise wasted, that he gets at least 150 more PA in 2011.

It's a simple question, Doctor: would you eat the moon if it were made of ribs??

by Invalid User on Jun 1, 2011 6:26 PM CDT up reply actions

I like Campana

as a person and a 4th/5th OF, but definitely not as a starter. However, I don’t mind him starting until everyone gets healthy.

by Ryno G on Jun 2, 2011 3:14 AM CDT up reply actions

Tempered expectations

If he is properly utilized, he can have some serious value to this ballclub as a #3/#4 OF even after Byrd gets healthy and then later when Jackson takes over CF.

- As a leadoff PH in the late innings of close games,
- As a defensive replacement for Soriano, and
- As a spot starter for Soriano against other teams’ #4/#5 RH starters in the #7 spot in the order

In that role, I’m happy with .250/.310/.320 with 8-9 PA/week and 20-22 innings/week in CF.

It's a simple question, Doctor: would you eat the moon if it were made of ribs??

+1

At least Barney has shown something to get the credit he’s getting amongst fans.

LeMahieu > The non-Castros of the bunch.

Though, I guess I should let him prove it first.

If Barney finishes the year hitting like he’s been hitting I will be pleasantly shocked.
