Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers Preview, Wednesday 6/15, 7:05 CT: Going For Three
The last time the Cubs won three games in a row:
- Bobby Scales, Xavier Nady and Micah Hoffpauir were still on the team.
- Casey Coleman won one of the three games.
- And gave up no runs while doing it.
- The Cubs gave up three runs -- combined -- in the three games. And scored eight -- in just one of the three games.
Those are all amazing and true facts from the Cubs' last three-game winning streak, which consisted of 1-0 and 2-0 wins in San Diego and an 8-3 win in Houston from Sept. 30-Oct. 2, 2010. Now, the last time the Cubs won three straight home games:
- Thomas Diamond was the winning pitcher in one of the games
- James Russell was the winning pitcher in another one of the games
- The Cubs scored 17 runs in the three games, with only three home runs.
- And one of the home runs was hit by Blake DeWitt.
- Finally, they sandwiched losses of 14-7 and 18-5 around that streak.
Those are all amazing and true facts from the Cubs' last three-game winning streak at home, more than nine months ago, from Sept. 1-4 (Sept. 2 was an off day), 2010. Perhaps they will accomplish this tremendous feat tonight. Or not. But in any case, I wanted to remind you what a three-game winning streak is like.
Cubs lineup:
Castro SS, Johnson CF, Baker 1B, Ramirez 3B, Soto C, Montañez RF, DeWitt LF, LeMahieu 2B, Zambrano p
Brewers lineup:
Weeks 2b, Morgan cf, Braun lf, Fielder 1b, McGehee 3b, Hart rf, Betancourt ss, Lucroy c, Narveson p

Something's gotta give. Both Chris Narveson and Carlos Zambrano have won their last three decisions against tonight's opponent.
Big Z gave up four runs to the Brewers on April 8 in Milwaukee, but the Cubs won that game 7-4, the only game they won in that series. Of current Brewers, Prince Fielder just pounds him: .349 (15-for-43) with five doubles, three HR and 15 walks.
Chris Narveson has a 0.98 career ERA against the Cubs in three lifetime starts, one in each year from 2009 through 2011. Current Cubs, though, are hitting .263 (15-for-57) off him, and Geovany Soto, who homered last night, is 4-for-10 with a double and three walks.
So maybe we're not totally doomed after all.
Today's game is on CSN Chicago and FSN Wisconsin. Here is the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.

Today's first pitch thread will be up at 7 pm CDT and the overflow threads will post at 8 pm, 9 pm and 9:45 pm CDT. If you need more overflows due to extra innings or rain delays, post them in the fanshot section.

He could have been so valuable moving forward!!! Damn you Hendry!!!! Damn you Quade!!!!
I have no problems with Baker hitting third against a lefty.
And hopefully, DeWitt will no longer be playing left once Sori comes back.

Actually, Soriano was activated today
With Barney on the DL, Soriano took his spot on the roster (link). So why isn’t Soriano in LF against the LHP tonight?

And it's been raining all day. Chances of Soriano pulling something in a leg on a wet
track, 98%. Chances of Soriano pulling something on a dry track, only 91%.
Because he doesn't slide as well as DeWitt to hold the hitter to a single

interesting lineup tonight
Anyone think Quade maybe just pulls names out of a hat 2 hrs before game time?
by bleedinblue76 on Jun 15, 2011 5:09 PM CDT via mobile reply actions
No.
Castro has consistently led off against lefties. Baker mashes lefties. Ramirez usually hits fourth or fifth, and Soto has hit fifth against lefties often enough.
The rest is cobbled together, but hardly random.
Where have you gone, Kiko Calero. A nation turns its lonely eyes to you.

Quade is actually pretty consistent
If the Cubs face a left-handed pitcher, Quade will load up on righties. On Monday night, there was only one lefty Cubs batter to start the game – Campana. This time it’s DeWitt.

Why isnt Soriano playing LF? kind of odd....

Glad to see DeWitt instead of Campana today. One of yesterdays heroes finds himself back on the bench as usual.
Quade never plays a guy the first day back from an injury or from the minors.
Heaven knows why.

Sullivan tweets game will be delayed
PWSullivan Paul Sullivan
Cubs-Brewers game will be delayed, though they don’t know how long yet.
Ok Boys n Girls...Let's step up to the plate, shall we?
Once again, the Cubs will attempt to win 3 in a row. (If my math is correct, that’s approx. 4.86% of a 162 gm schedule). Some daring soul, earlier this week, predicted Cubs win 3 of 4 from Crew…he/she did not say “3 in a row”. For those of you paying attention last nite, I myself (AKA “Mr. Happy-Pants”) predicted the comeback mere moments before it began… As I would violate the unwritten rule of the “anti-jinx”…I cannot vote here. My question is simply this: Who will go on written record, RIGHT NOW, and predict tonite ends in our first 3 gm win streak of 2011???

I answered your question in the other thread last night about what baz stands for…and about the Game of Thrones..
It was a late reply, had a softball double-header so I had to leave
right when you asked the question.
When I played in the Colt World Series, they handed out T-shirts to all the players and to be politically correct to the Asian and Latin American teams, they spelled baseball bazball, so for some reason, my email/screen names have always been bazfan…I know, I know, it is very boring.
haha
Although I like Big Z, that would be just a little over the top…
Game of Thrones
Got to say I love that show, did not think I would but my wife turned me on to it. Did you watch the last episode? I cannot believe they beheaded him.

I was actually saddened by it..

That's wildly pessimistic
Neither the Cubs nor MLB seem to give two rips about that salary/debt violation right now. If it gets to be an issue, the Ricketts will be given a deadline to present a plan, and then hearings will be held to review the plan, etc.
IOW, if we miss on those two, it won’t be because of some labor rule that applies more to owners who own their clubs outright than to brand-new owners with tons of shiny new debt.
