Well, let's hope another pitcher is on the way
I wish Doug would have worked out, but he’s not getting any better.
Angel Guzman is the man.
Hopefully we can see more of Lopez in that 5th spot now!!!!!!
He could not go…it would mean a trade failed again for the Cubs…
In related news....
In a move to increase the team’s confidence, the Chicago Cubs have hired Doug Davis to pitch batting practice.
Jaramillo counters this by having everyone swing early in the count

Blake "The Franchise" DeWitt will lead us to the promised land
I hope they release the Franchise next so you can know the pain I'm feeling right now.
GM's are in charge of Managers, not the other way around.
dont joke about that, man

Dougie D has been released?
I hate this f**king team.
GM's are in charge of Managers, not the other way around.
Was there really even a reason to do it??
The direction of the team is baffling. If I have to hear another interview regarding whether or not they are ready to sellers I am going to be sick. Mostly because I am sick of hearing BS

They'll be selling once teams start looking to buy.

There was plenty of reason
Davis could have earned well over a $1 million in incentives had he stayed with the team. Rodrigo Lopez can do just as crappy of a job as Davis, but for much less money. The optimist in me says that the $500K or so that we save from cutting Davis could get put towards an overslot bonus to a draft pick or a nice bonus to an international FA. But the realist in me knows it will go towards the club debt.
So who is in the 5th spot now?
The reason I’m mostly concerned is because I’ve got tickets for Sunday (White Sox) and that spot should be up!
Casey Coleman
He is going to come up and walk everyone like he did before.

In a totally surprising move...
The Cubs sign Pedro Martinez and Jamie Moyer to attempt to beat Doug Davis’s attempts at the #5 spot in the rotation. They will promptly throw 4 innings of perfect baseball each, and Marmol will promptly blow the save, cubs lose 3-2.
you and me both
It’s going to be 90 and humid and we will likely get to see college of pitchers. :(

On the birght side, he's now available to throw at the home run derby.
I think I speak for everyone here when I say, "Wait, what the hell are you talking about?"
Please don't tell me Lopez is going to take his spot.

The reason I am a Cub fan forever
If López is the 5th man, I really need to divorce this team.
I can only take so much, and this figures to be the last of it.

The Doug Davis experiment is over
He certainly didn’t do the Cubs favors, but I’m not going to bad mouth the guy on a message board on his way out. Good luck, Doug.

Yeah good luck to him
He had a decent career. He may get a ST invite but more likely I think he will walk away.

Echo'd.
You can’t fault a guy for aging, and truthfully, if he was still a major league caliber pitcher he wouldn’t have been available when we needed him.
Even so, I’m much happier with the idea of a young, overmatched pitcher who might at least gain valuable experience, over a veteran who fought hard but had nothing left in the tank.
At least he gave us that Yankees game ….

Unfortunately, we tried young and overmatched and old and overmatched.
Neither worked.

true enough
I’m just saying, if we’re going lose, we may as well go with the guy who’ll lose and get an education out of it. Plus younger guys are cheaper.
Does it sound like I’m grasping for straws? Well, sure, I am. There’s not much else to grasp at here.

We'll always remember the gem he tossed -vs- the Yankees
Ah, the memories…
Get 'em on, Get 'em over, Get 'em in!
We'll always have that start against the Yankees, Doug.
Good luck.

that had to be one of my favorite games this season

In a way, it's kind of cool for Davis.
Sure, he’d have to block out the memory of his last couple starts, but as he exited baseball, he beat the team with the highest payroll, the greatest winning tradition and (arguably) harnessed his old stuff one more time.
I’m kind of stunned that Davis got cut instead of Lopez — maybe it had something to do with contract incentives? — but it doesn’t matter much. Nine days out of 10, both guys are pretty poor excuses for fifth starters.
Glad to see Barney back, though.

Me too
Kinda sad though if he’s one of the bright spots

But... but... but... Doug Davis said everyone was on the same page!!!
How can this be?

Jerry Angelo trades for Jay Cutler! (4.2.2009)
He never said WHAT that page is...
Apparently it’s a Yellow Page listing for moving vans.

I'd like to thank Doug Davis for
his one start against the Yankees. Masterful. It reminded me of the way Frank Tanana threw for the Detroit Tigers late in his career.

Davis had adequate chances to stay.
I’m ready to move on. Good luck Doug.

Still, every time I think of Doug Davis:
Game 2, 2007 NLDS
Keep that Q Train rollin' in '11. Let's win it for Ronnie.
Wow seems a bit extreme re Davis
I wonder if he could be injured. I wonder if they offered to send him down to Iowa.
As always I am SO glad we had all that depth with back of the rotation starters.

Me either
GOOD RIDDANCE
Did Jim Hendry really think it was going to turn out differently, signing a 55 ERA+ guy in 2010?
