Hideous time to be a fan

I am watching the NBA Finals. Usually, my sports cycle goes as follows:

* January -- Football, Football, Football

* February -- Key NBA games; College basketball tournaments; Spring Training previews

* March - College basketball

* April - First couple series' of MLB season, NBA playoffs

* May - NBA, keep an eye on Cubs

* June - Finish NBA; Full-time Cubs & Baseball

Now... I find myself wishing that the NBA finals was a best 19 out of 37 series.

The Heat and Blue Devils will be the champions of basketball. The Stanley Cup is being decided by thuggery.  College sports are a cesspool. Today's champion is tomorrow's blank spot in the record book. We won't have the NBA next year and may not have the NFL.

And our favorite baseball team could very well lose 105 games.

Well, no matter what happens, you can be sure of one thing.

I'm not freaking watching auto racing.

We finally broke down and got a Wii

My wife and I are pretty simple people as far as video games go. We were fairly happy with our GameCube, but we got one and several games. So, that could be my summer.

Or, I need to get a second job. She’s knocked up again.

That is so funny

We know a variety of preggo couples right now. But know the wives better than hubby’s. So to imagine the hubbies thinking these things made me LOL

I take it you didn't watch the Wire.

He was fantastic in that as Mayor Carcetti. And I personally enjoy him as Littlefinger in GoT – which is hands down the best show on television right now.

My suggestion - go outside.

Turn off the TV, turn off the radio, go outside. Go to a minor league game to get your baseball fix. Don’t torture yourself – it’s not worth your time and heartache.

We biked a few week-ends ago to a park to have a picnic

Listening to some of the game on the Iphone, then biked back. Great way to listen to just a handful of innings and get some good exercise.

by Madison Cub Fan on Jun 8, 2011 8:17 AM CDT up reply actions

Nah

After every inning, take the number of pitches thrown by the opposing team, subtract the number of pitches thrown by the Cubs, and then do that number in pushups. You’ll be buff in a week.

by Danwood on Jun 8, 2011 2:55 PM CDT up reply actions

In terms of minor leagues

may I also suggest arena football. The Rush are decent again this year, and the games are affordable. The season tickets I’ve had for years have been well worth in in terms of entertainment

It never gets to be easy.

I wonder if they bring his character back to a point of likability.

It began as a man desperate to save his life and provide for his family upon his death, now he’s really off the deep end, not that he wasn’t before.

by troutfishin on Jun 8, 2011 7:16 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't think that's the point.

Vince Gilligan (show runner, former X-Files producer) has said it is about the demise of a man towards drug kingpin. If you are into the show and don’t already, listen to the BREAKING BAD INSIDER podcast; it is free, on iTunes, and just about the best podcast for those jonesing for BB.

Well, for me anyway… the Blue Devils aren’t champions, as Jim Calhoun and the Huskies rose from the deepest cesspool in all of college sports (the Connecticut basketball program) to win the tournament.
