We're saved! (From having Heilman on the team, anyway.)

No one "hates" Heilman.
But have you looked at his numbers this year? He’s been … really bad.

heilman's numbers this year area little deceptive
he has a 6.88 ERA with 8.4 K/9, 2.8 BB/9 and a 38.5% ground ball rate in 35 1/3 innings of work this year. Heilman’s ERA was twice his xFIP of 3.44. He allowed a .360 batting average on balls in play and 20% of fly balls against him left the yard. His average fastball velocity dipped from 92.3 mph in 2010 to 90.6 mph in 2011. Not “really bad” numbers by any stretch.

Eight home runs allowed in 35.1 IP
… is pretty bad.
Really, we know how much you like this pitcher. But his MLB career is coming to a close. And it wasn’t that good to begin with.

His peripheral numbers aren't that bad
But if his average fastball velocity is dropping, maybe that’s a sign that he’s losing his stuff, in which case his actual numbers being out of line with his peripherals may not just be due to bad luck.

Your unending love for the man continues as wel
Honestly, I’ve never seen such an incredibly mediocre player generate such devotion from someone.

It's because he knows him personally
I don’t think that’s unreasonable.

Well there was the Jake Fox devotee
who liked him because he signed autographs. He was convinced Fox would hit at least 25 HR’s if only someone would give him a starting job. At least Mr Custer knows Heilman so there is a reason.
John Grabow: $4.8 million in 2011.
Beware!
Chad Gaudin has been released by the Washington Nationals. Let’s get that piece that escaped us after we dealt for Harden!
You know, the first time we got Heilman, we traded for him
So, him signing somewhere else doesn’t really save us from anything.

Sure it does.
Saves us from signing him to return.

my point is we traded for him once, we can do it again!
