Chicago Cubs vs. Houston Astros Preview, Saturday 7/23, 12:05 CT
Never mind three wins in a row -- the Cubs haven't even won two in a row since they beat the Giants two straight on June 29 and 30. Before that, it was the last game of the Brewers series and first game against the Yankees on June 16 and 17. Since that June 17 win -- pitched by Doug Davis, who isn't on the team any more -- the Cubs are 11-20. Figures, right? That these mini-winning streaks would all come against good teams?
Want some more happy news? It's probably going to rain off and on all day.
Cubs lineup:
Johnson RF, Castro SS, Ramirez 3B, Baker 1B, Soto C, Byrd CF, Soriano LF, Barney 2B, Wells P
Astros lineup is not yet available.

Randy Wells pitched against the Astros three times last year (none this year so far) and not well in any of them, posting a 6.88 ERA. Hunter Pence is 6-for-14 against him with a home run; overall, current Astros are hitting .270 (20-for-74) against him.
Wandy Rodriguez is 5-5 with a 4.04 ERA in 17 career starts against the Cubs, a decent record. This year, though, in his one start vs. the Cubs on April 13 in Houston, they hit him pretty hard, including a home run by Alfonso Soriano. Could two wins in a row happen?
Today's game is on CSN Chicago and My-20 in Houston. Here is the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.

taking a minute
out from my Sat chores to check in on BCB. Honestly the wins are empty. I would prefer to see a win with something or someone we can look forward to playing in the coming years. Nice and all that they won yesterday. But HR by Soriano and Ramirez leave me meh. Now if they had won with dingers from say a Jackson or any other young player, that would excite me much more.
Cubs 2011 59-103
Instead of dumping players just to unload salary, I think
the Cubs should maybe package Ramirez and some prospects for a legit OF (like BJ Upton)
17'$ h4pp3n1n9!?!?!?
I mentioned this earlier in the year, and it's not a bad idea.

Over/Under on Wells - runs given up in the 1st?
I was a little high last time with 4 when he only gave up 3. Houston’s pretty bad, so I think he skates out of the 1st with only 1 run allowed.
It's a simple question, Doctor: would you eat the moon if it were made of ribs??
No Rounders for the boys of Ursa Minor today, I dare say.
If the Cubs still have a chance, no matter how small, it’s still Go Cubs, damn the math and pass the KoolAid.
Pray tell Ser Yellon, the new fangled portal wunderground.com shows little sign of rain on the wireless reflection locator.

The rain shall arrive from the north in my home,
And it shall drive all that humid air away. And then, we shan’t have many more days of temperatures in the mid-30s Celsius.

Mid-30s Celsius?
What is that like…. 600 Fahrenheit?
Soriano's Contract: Approximately one dollar for every pitch in the dirt that he swings at.
Mid-90s, in actuality.
But it shall avaunt today, and afflict us here no longer.

Time for Mr. Wells to get back on track
More sixes from Sir Alfonso please.
