OT?: The Legend of Sam Fuld
Imagine my surprise, opening the newspaper to the Sports page (of the San Jose Mercury News) this morning, and the lead article was: The Legend of Sam Fuld.

his legend stretches from coast to coast!
"Wait, are you saying I'm a sunshine-pumping, koolaid-drinking, Soriano-loving, rainbow-rising, unicorn-riding, double-clutching, Sweet Lou-backing, Hendry-supporting, hey hey whaddya saying, Cubs are going all the waying, glass is overflowing, Rothschild is all-knowing, Cubs fan? - ballhawk
Sam Fuld lookalike was won by an 8 year old girl...
Best thing I learned from that story.
Urp
He is the Chosen One. He was meant to take us to the Promised Land.

Why did we trade away such a phenom?
"I'm not much of a chemistry guy, you know. Chemistry to me is a pinch-hit double with the bases loaded"--Jim Frey, Chicago Tribune, 1985.
The two-word answer?
Fire Hendry!

Good for Sam.... I'm glad he's gotten the opportunity to play for a winning team
Under a winning manager, who knows how to use his roster and put his players in a position to succeed.
Sam would be a useful player on any team’s roster, but the Chicago Cubs did not see it that way for the better part of the last 3 years.

So I guess he should say thanks to Hendry for trading him to a team with a good manager...
Hendry actually did him a favor…
He gets to play almost every day. His on ESPN all the time with his web gems….
His replacement bats twice and week and PR for Soriano….
Fuld is a lucky Guy…..
He should send a thank you card to Matt Garza

True, otherwise it would have been a long year on the bench or in Iowa....
He must be amazed by Joe Maddon
Pssst. Here's a secret: Fuld is a bench player.
He had a nice little run earlier, and he’s a fantastic outfielder. But he doesn’t have any power, and in the season where he becomes famous, he can barely hold a .300 OBP. He should be amazed that anyone game him 300 AB’s.
"Enough foreplay- let's get crackin'"- Fred Garvin
Please do not burst their Fuld-ian delusions.
Sam Fuld can do no wrong…. hell, judging from the article, it appears that Fuld himself has bought into it.
I think I speak for everyone here when I say, "Wait, what the hell are you talking about?"
Would you believe I JUST saw this
Really nothing at all new there. A few notes, Hendry DID do Fuld a favor, but please keep in mind Fuld was out of options and left handed, he had virtually no chance to make the team and thus Hendry threw him into the Garza trade to a team that had wanted him. He had paid his dues with the Cubs and it was more than time for him to move on.
Yes he is a “bench” player or more like a super bench player. When Tampa needed him to start after the Manny debacle, he came through, now he starts a few times a week and perhaps less with the Jennings call up. He has actually been hitting decently of late after the black hole of May. The thing that should upset Cub fans is that Fuld is has way above average speed and knows how to use it, is a very patient batter (oddly not so much since he has been in Tampa) who until this year had drawn more walks than than Ks at every level he played in which is very rare, and is superb defensively. Those are the top three areas in which the Cubs fail miserably. In many ways Fuld should have been the PERFECT bench player for the Cubs who desperately need pinch runners, defensive replacements and someone who can start for injured or resting players. However the Cubs could never find a place for him, some of that was bad timing (his injuries, the Cubs lack of injuries in 2010, Colvin’s break out Spring) but much of it was bad planning and most of all the fact that the Cubs organization simply does not value speed, defense and plate patience.
I am very, very happy for Fuld and really enjoy watching the Rays play, but it is frustrating to see them execute everything the Cubs don’t.
Here is a fun article on how the Rays are winning on DEFENSE. Imagine that.
