He's out of the All-Star Game. Aramis Ramirez has the highest OPS of any regular 3B in the NL (.854 as of Saturday morning). It's likely he'll be selected to replace Chipper.

Jones...

…seems to have missed a boatload of games in the last 6-7 years. The dude is about as fragile as they come.

Getting hurt in your early 30s

Doesn’t bode well for playing when you’re 40. Chipper’s had all sorts of leg injuries over the past few years, but that knee is what will end his career, probably after this season.

Agree he needs to get healthy

So it does not hurt in post baseball.

Great for Aramis!

I still love the guy for all the things he’s done for this team and city since 2003. I’ll forever consider him one of my favorite Cubs. He’s having a much more “Aramis Ramirez-like” season this year and I’m really happy for him

Keep that Q Train rollin' in '11. Let's win it for Ronnie.

Also.....

Reyes out and Colorado doesn’t want to risk using Tulo. Starlin may start.

And…..Atlanta just lost a 3B, A-Rod has a torn meniscus and is talking surgery. Let the bidding for A-Ram begin.

"It was a perfect situation for the Brewers," Hill said. "They had a guy up there at the plate [in Counsell] who takes a lot of pride in what he does and he practices those situations, so when it does come up, he gets the bunt down to the right side of the field. They have the perfect guy on first base [in Gomez], who is one of the fastest guys in the league, and they had one of the worst fundamental teams on the field, so it was a perfect situation for them."

Just one problem

Aramis has to agree to the bidding…

by uptowncub on Jul 9, 2011 12:01 PM CDT reply actions

now the reason why the report that NYY scouts looking at Ramirez

NY Daily link

Now with Chipper down there actually could be a bidding competition, and one team might agree to Ramirez’s option as well,

This would be significant if it materialized.

Any paying attention since '03 should realize that Aram can be huge...

…in clutch situations and playoff runs, he’s the one guy on this roster that the Cubs can get a nice payoff for.

Guys, hitting is not about muscle. It's simple physics. Calculate the velocity, v, in relation to the trajectory, t, in which g, gravity, of course remains a constant.... It's not complicated. - George Costanza

I do believe Aramis Ramirez might be tradeable with all this actioin going on.

Just waive the damn option. Bring back Delgado (they’d never give us Teheran). Better yet…Mike Minor. Really, I don’t know.

by SenorGato on Jul 9, 2011 12:56 PM CDT reply actions

A-Ram can waive an NTC

He is not going to waive the option so any team that wants him is going to have to want him next year. I suppose there could be an understanding he won’t exercise it, but I doubt that.

Soooooo.....

Chances the braves and yanks get in a bidding war for A-Ram?

by Dcr18 on Jul 9, 2011 1:01 PM CDT via mobile reply actions

chipper is supposed to be out only a couple of weeks and prado is coming off DL soon

so i dont think the braves will get involved

Yeah, they won't want Ramirez

but they might be more interested in Baker, Byrd or Johnson than they were before. Either Baker or Prado could play third, and they need a RH outfielder.

Angel Guzman is the man.

I'd think this should pretty much close the book on...

future Hall of Famer, Larry “Chipper” Jones.

With the 1st pick in the 2012 Baseball Amateur Draft, the Chicago Cubs select...

I agree

Truthfully, I’m a little shocked he made it back this year. Between the ACL and Bobby retiring, I figured he’d see it as a good reason to hang ’em up himself.

They said on Fox

that Scott Rolen would likely get the call over Ramirez. Eric Karros was outraged by that. He’s right—there is no way that Rolen is having a better year than Ramirez.

by Josh Timmers on Jul 9, 2011 3:22 PM CDT reply actions

Agreed.

Rolen is having a terrible season. Ramirez has the best numbers of any NL third baseman — highest OPS, HR, RBI. Plus, he’s amazingly hot right now. A-Ram deserves to go.

Just another reason how the current set up for the ASG is a joke.

Josh it is possible A-Ram does not want to go

and has communicated that. There was one year Maddux who was having a pretty good but not great year made it clear he had made a family commitment and preferred not to be picked.

Aramis has a $75,000 All-Star bonus.

I’m guessing if he gets picked, he’s going.

What is it 14.6 mill for ARAM this year??

If he has 600 PA this year he will average $24,333.33 per AB. I am sure $75K is, sadly, not worth his time.
