For those who always wanted to block users...
Thank me later. Unfortunately, it only works currently for Chrome and Safari users.
Once again, thank me later.

no firefox love
for shame
I personally believe that damaged ligaments and tendons (among other abrasions) aren't the reason for the team playing so poorly relative the rest of Major League Baseball, so accordingly, James Hendry should be relieved of his highly important duties as General Manager of the Chicago Cubs franchise.
Firefox users can modify this one

"Who ever heard of the Cubs losing a game they had to have?" -Frank Chance
"If [Ruth] had [called his shot], I would have knocked him down with the next pitch." -Charlie Root
Trying both side-by-side
The LSB version is harder – it requires reconfiguring the source code and manually adding users to the block list. Also, if you want to use it on multiple SBN sites, you have to run multiple scripts, one for each site. The “hide single comment feature” is a nice thing, though, especially for pictures posted without a subject line.
The CSC version addresses a few of those concerns: SBN-wide and easy to configure, not to mention being able to see responses to the blocked posters.

More side-by-side comparison
The Chrome version works well most of the time. There are times when it seems to not do it’s job, but a quick refresh fixes it (briefly, at times). The FF script works all the time, but it needs to catch up with the comment. The moment a blocked user’s comment receives focus (via the C or Z key), it goes away, as do all responses to it. In that way, the FF version is “cleaner” – you wouldn’t even know the user existed if you didn’t pay too much attention.
As I’m biased toward Chrome for browsing, I’ll continue to use this version, but I like ’em both.

Don't mention it.

Holy hell...this is awesome.
There are comments in this thread I cannot see. I love it.
Rec’d x 1000.
WOO HOOO
You know who you are, and you’ve been blocked.
TOTALLY

If the Cubs still have a chance, no matter how small, it’s still Go Cubs, damn the math and pass the KoolAid.
Wow, this could change BCB as we know it.
I don’t have any plans to use it myself as I’ve gotten pretty good over the years at ignoring or simply giving an eyeroll to certain commenters. And I’m prone to taking long breaks from the site — as I just did this weekend. But, hey, go crazy, foks. Go crazy.
Baseball is pitching, hitting, baserunning and defense.
I've got it set up on Chrome,
but I prefer using Firefox. My plan is to only simply ignore/eyeroll most of the time and then switch over if I find myself getting really annoyed.
Fasten those seat belts...
C'mon now...
you all know when you start reading some of the posts on here and an argument breaks out, and one of the posters is blocked, you’ll unblock him/her to see what they’re saying that’s causing the commotion.

what if I get blocked by everyone and I end up talking to no one?
who will answer my dopey questions (like the one above)?

Meh.
I really think something like this will be used too much in the end. Which is why I will not block anyone on BCB, or anywhere else.

You're welcome, guys.
I don’t use it, and I don’t think many of my members use it either. But it might help some people enjoy their experience a bit more.

Lol so I just read the thread by Cariello...
They basically spend the whole time bashing anyone who actually thinks they’re so above another person on a blog on the internet that they have to block them in comments. Worth the lawl.
Has nothing to do with "above".
Has everything to do with not wanting to read posts from you (for example) when you are combative.
So stop. I won’t have you chasing good people away from this site, and you are starting to do that.

Oh brother. I must have had some that day.
This was supposed to go in the Old Style thread. How embarrassing.

Yea it's a really good thing for the community.
This is how communities work.
Minus the ability to down-vote, unrec, ignore, or otherwise express anonymous disapproval of content
It’s a compromise that was needed. Almost every other virtual community in which I participate provides the ability to do this, but SBN relies on its blog managers to police their individual spaces. This can be problematic when the blog managers are too few (such as here) or biased toward a particular viewpoint. IMHO, a virtual community isn’t complete unless it allows the user autonomy over what content to which they will be exposed. Vigorous policing is fine, but some individuals can subvert the intent of the rules while still following the letter. When a user feels that is happening, it is important to allow them the ability to not be exposed to content they may find objectionable. If that need is not being met, the site will lose members.
BCB has already lost a few users who once posted regularly due to user behavior they found objectionable but for which they had no recourse but complaints to Al. This script (and the LSB version I linked) allow this functionality, encouraging broader participation. Last I checked, that’s a good thing.

Just curious
Who has this site lost?? As a member for 4+ years – Im guessing if you can provide names I would recognize them.
If you are speculating – I get it. Because I could too so Im not knocking your comment
"Hey.....Cubs win!!!" ---Harry

drewishdrewid and Cubbie-Tim, to name two.
And when’s the last time Allie posted?

Yeah I could see that
Although – its quite possible those users are not around because of the lame ass team on the field.
Then again – regardless. We stinks!!
I cannot wait for good consistent baseball again

Oh, we stinks - I'm not gonna deny that.
But none of those posters are fair-weather fans.

It’s inverted when it comes to sports – happy fans are creative fans, happy in their own way. Unhappy fans are all alike. They cry in lockstep.

It seems her last post was June 8.
So quite a while ago.
But I really wonder if they left due to their views on the team (they all seem to be optimists) and will be back when the Cubs start doing better. Drewishdrewid appears in the half-green elgato thread near the bottom.

someone needs to go over there and convince him to begin the BCB Rapture
although judging by the lack of caps, it could be an imposter…

Now that you mention him, you're right.
I’m sure there are plenty of others who we could come up with if we thought about it. And also, if I get into the local pre-med program here, my time on BCB would get very limited too.
