I liked the recap. All of above: best answer.

And, Coleman deserves no more starts. I don’t want to go back to giving up a loss every 5 games. Don’t we have anybody that can throw 5 innings AND get outs? There has got to be somebody in our system.

An amazing game from the Cubs today!!!!!

Amazing clutch hitting
Amazing hustle from Soriano when he popped up with the bases loaded.
Amazing fielding from him on the other teams popups…

The Astros are doing what we SHOULD be doing…shedding payroll and playing every prospect possible. Seeing what they have going forward.

Jim Hendry does nothing..

All I know is that AAA Astros are better than the Chicago Cubs.
They play harder, can hit in the clutch, (all of their runs scored with 2 outs…We cant handle the bases loaded with no outs..) And want to win more…..

That team is much more fun to watch than the Cubs.

Dont bet on it...

…I’m guessing he will say; ’we had a great draft, we are going in the right direction, Hendry and Quade are working hard, etc. etc.."

The fact is, they may or may not have had a good draft, but do you want this same organizational culture to be what is driving the development of these draft choices? My answer is; hell no!

I would love for him to give the old; “we are going to evaluate at the end of the year”, because that would mean Hendry and Quade are gone for sure, but I wouldn’t count on it. Also, if he was going to announce the hiring of a guy like Gillick, something would have leaked that they were having serious discussions.

by chit0wn on Aug 17, 2011 6:56 PM CDT reply actions

I highly reccomend an android. My wife just got the 4g Motorola Atrix and its the best phone I’ve seen. Its super fast and still has 90 percent aps support that Iphone has.

by bleedinblue76 on Aug 17, 2011 7:00 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

Every single Android phone is inferior to the iPhone w.r.t Ease of Use..

If you don’t want to muck with your phone every day then go with an iPhone..If you want the best user experience..go with the iPhone..if you want tons and tons of apps then go with the iPhone..if you hate fragmentation and hate the fact that your carrier might block OS updates or the device maker might take forever to catch up with the OS updates then go with the iPhone..

If you are only getting best coverage with Sprint/T-Mobile or any other carrier other than AT&T or Verizon then go with an Android.

Having said all the above, you should really wait for one more month and get a shiny brand spanking new iPhone 5.

by cubsnlinux on Aug 17, 2011 7:35 PM CDT up reply actions

iPhone 5 may not be out till next year.

I have an Android phone and love it (Samsung Epic). It does take a little more effort than an iPhone, but it is more customizable. Pretty much all the major apps work on both.

I have never had any trouble using either FB or Twitter on my phone.

by chit0wn on Aug 17, 2011 7:50 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm on Sprint.

You’ll find that most of the Android carriers have plans that are less expensive than the iPhone plans.

I bought the Epic because I heard it had better battery life than the Evo (which I also considered). I can leave my house, go to Wrigley, give it very heavy use (tweeting, using MLB AtBat, checking weather) and have plenty of battery left.

I have tweeted many photos from Wrigley using my phone — very happy with the camera.

A new iPhone will most definitely be out in the next one month.

They are already 4 months behind their regular release cycle. It will be out in time for the holidays. The one thing I absolutely hate with the Android devices is how different they all are with respect to feel. If I have to pick an Android device I would go with HTC because the Sense UI rocks.

If you ever use an iPhone then you really cannot go back. There is absolutely no comparison. None. Google bought Moto Mobility and this could make things interesting. Google is saying that they bought for the vast patent portfolio but I think we might see some tight software+hardware integration. That’s what is lacking with all the Android devices.

sounds like a fair and balanced review

not so fast….. I find the Android much easier to use. I’ve had both. Iphone doesn’t have 4g yet either. The only complaint I have about the android phone is the battery life. But then again I seem to use it a lot to listen to music and read BCB, Twitter and Facebook

Agreed.

I don’t get it when people say Android devices are difficult to use. I’d think anyone who buys a new advanced device like these spends the first few days tinkering with them and figuring them out. I actually enjoy that part.

I have the HTC Droid Incredible on Verizon -- I love it and it only cost me $100 w/ a 2 year contract.

I use Facebook on my phone and it works perfectly and easily; I don’t tweet so I’m not sure about Twitter. My only complaint is the battery doesn’t last very long but you get use to it — The Incredible is being updated to Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread) this week or next week and they say it will drastically improve battery life. Also, I wish I had a keyboard for my big fingers so I wouldn’t mis-spell so many words. Next phone I get will have a keyboard.

Also, don’t believe the BS about apps — The Android Market offers more than enough apps to satisfy me. I love Google Navigation, Google Voice, Handcent txt messaging, Pandora, Where, Weatherbug, Droidlight (when I need a flashlight), just to name a few. What more could a man need?

The ones you mention are the ones I use, for the most part.

If you tweet from your phone, I recommend Seesmic.

The MLB AtBat app is worth every penny of the $15 price. (Well, maybe not in mid-August, but buy it at the beginning of next season.)

dobule twist app + doubletwist computer program is great

essentially itunes for the android, amazon appstore has a free app everyday, and then of course, plants vs zombies

I got one of these with the extended battery.

I spend most of my time playing Bubble Blast on it. Cause I’m cool.

I just got the HTC EVO 4G

as a replacement for my failing Blackberry 8330 on Sprint and I love it…
I went ahead and got the larger battery for it and have no problems with
running out of power.
It has an 8 mp camera on the back and a 2 mp camera in the front for
video conferencing and it can be used with yahoo for video chat as well.

Tons of Apps so far and I’ve seen where all the major apps for Eh-Phone
are also made for Android.
The Netflix app is cool and you can stream movies right to it.

I have wifi at my place so I leave that on around the house.

Heard about those battery issues the EVO has.

My HTC Incredible isn’t much better — You’d think they’d do a better job making their batteries last log enough so heavy users wouldn’t have to cough up an extra $50 for a bigger battery.

I’ve heard the 4G thing has a lot to do with the battery drain — Some friends of mine with 4G devices complain all the time about their batteries dying too fast. Oh well, at least an Android device has the option to change batteries — I don’t think you can swap batteries on the iphone.

I've heard

the exact same battery complaint from no less than 6 newer owners (all in last coupla weeks).

Actually

you can turn off the 4G part if you know the area you’re in has no 4G coverage
and that really helps save the battery as well as the wifi…
That way it’s not constantly searching for the 4G or wifi

Another thing that really helps battery life...

…is adjusting the download intervals for email, social media, weather, etc. I switched my email accounts to download every 4 hours rather than the pre-set 15 minutes and the battery life increased drastically. If you want to check your email sooner, you just refresh it. Same thing goes for the weather apps — Who needs their weather updated every half hour?

I just installed the K-9 Mail app

and the widget that comes with it… really nice email program and the
widget allows you to turn off email polling on all accounts with one touch…

There’s also an app for Metra and one for the “L” that comes in handy to
find out the train schedules…

Definitely the iphone

And really it’s about the integration between the other devices. I recently bought the apple TV, for $100 and now can AirPlay my iPhone music through my tv speakers. basically apple has a product in different mediums all using the same platform, it will be years before google is able to do that, if they ever do.

Coleman was terrible BUT

the team went 0-13 RISP. Does Quade realize the Byrd has only 22 RBI despite hitting middle of the order this year.

If Ricketts was planning to brag on the team’s recent performance, he missed their 15 minutes of fame.

If it wasn't for the injuries, we'd be printing WS tickets right now.

by tharr on Aug 17, 2011 7:33 PM CDT reply actions

i was looking at that the other day

yes, he missed some time but our RBI numbers from middle of the order guys not named Ramirez are disgraceful, of course when most guys hit .220 with RISP it ain’t rocket science to figure out the reason. Congrats Hendry, you have a team of guys who excel at 2 out singles with no one on base.

by BeltwayCubsFan on Aug 17, 2011 7:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Byrd

.198 BS Risp. All but 4 PA as #3, #5 or #6 hitter. Same type foolishness as Castro as #3 hitter. Quade fails again and again in understanding where players fail and succeed.

If it wasn't for the injuries, we'd be printing WS tickets right now.

by tharr on Aug 17, 2011 8:48 PM CDT up reply actions

It is bad

318 AB’s and 22 RBI’s. As bad as Colvin has been, 15 RBI’s in 141 AB’s. Either way this team for the last 3 years just doesn’t hit with runners on.

Al, great recap...

I had the privilege of catching a Minor League game tonight (Winston-Salem Dash), who is the White Sox affiliate (Single A I believe). It was refreshing to see a team successfully execute a squeeze play, hit with RISP, and hustle out a play. It is sad when you can almost predict when your team is going to fail (RISP).

Also, I could not believe they played Hawk’s (put it on the board) saying when a home team player hit a homerun.

Losing two of three to the Astros is beyond putrid.

After the Atlanta series, I thought this Cubs team was on a positive trend. No more. It’s time to write them off for the year and follow NCAA football. I think my team, Alabama, may do pretty well this year. ROLL TIDE!

I enjoy this website because it's so interesting to see folks pole vaulting over mouse turds.

by BAMACOLONEL on Aug 17, 2011 9:36 PM CDT reply actions

Putrid is a good word to describe it..

I only reconized 3 or 4 players that the Astros had on their roster.

In about 179 days pitchers and catchers will report for 2012 spring training.

In about 545 days pitchers and catchers will report for 2013 spring training.
In about 910 days pitchers and catchers will report for 2014 spring training.

etc.

Is there anyway to find out how many times

the Cubs had the bases loaded with no out and scored less than 2 runs? We have to be leading the lead in that category, don’t we?
