With the Braves having a near-record 22 extra-inning games so far this season, I've expected one to be played at Wrigley Field this week. The Cubs didn't do their part and tie the game in the bottom of the ninth on Tuesday night. The two teams have played five games so far this year -- none of which have gone into extras.
Here are some more Braves 2011 X-inning facts:
- They've played extra innings against 12 of the 15 NL teams. Besides the Cubs, they did not go past nine innings against the Brewers or Rockies (and have finished their season series against those teams).
- They went into extras against two of the four AL teams they faced in interleague play: Angels and Rangers.
- The most extra-inning games vs. one team for Atlanta: three against the Pirates. They also had two each against the Padres, Reds, Phillies, Nationals, Giants and Astros.
It would probably figure, if there were going to be only one extra-inning game in this series, that it would be tonight, since there's a day game on Thursday. If it happens, let's hope Mike Quade doesn't double-switch his way out of bench players before the 10th inning.
Cubs lineup:
Castro SS, Barney 2B, Ramirez 3B, Peña 1B, Colvin RF, Soriano LF, Campana CF, Soto C, Wells P
Braves lineup:
Bourn cf, Prado lf, McCann c, Uggla 2b, Freeman 1b, Jones 3b, Heyward rf, Gonzalez ss, Lowe p

Tonight's game is a pitching rematch of the game on August 13 in Atlanta. The Cubs hit Derek Lowe pretty well -- 10 hits and five runs in six innings -- and even went 4-for-15 with RISP! (Yeah, I know, hard to believe.) Randy Wells threw five credible innings and the Cubs won the game. Wells gave up a homer to Dan Uggla, but then, lots of pitchers have.
Today's game is on CSN Chicago and FSN South. Here is the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.
