I would love to see the Cubs get a high-profile GM like Epstein or Cashman. Not sure if Freidman is a good fit. I think he'd lose his mind not working on a strict budget. Haha!

Wow this is a bad article....

I guess you didnt watch Quade manage this season.

You can bring up all those kids you want, but your boy Quade will make them sit and watch Soriano play.

by TJ11 on Aug 25, 2011 9:13 AM CDT reply actions

I agree. Quade doesn't deserve to come back next year...

with bad managerial decisions, questionable handling of rookies versus veterans and having a “Not Ready For Primetime” coaching staff. I’ve seen enough of Mike Quade. Time for him to move on.

Agree...

…at first, I was wondering if he was being sarcastic, but I guess he wasn’t.

IMO, I don’t believe I have seen another manager in so far over his head as Quade. As Al has mentioned before, Bevington comes to mind, but Quade may take the cake.

Quade has been horrible this year.

I don’t know what team you have been watching but there have been a lot of mistakes then just one. The best thing about the team is the bullpen. No mention is Freidman in the article. He is probably the #1 candidate. I would like Cashman but it is only my opinion. The biggest argument I have is your comparison of Pujols and Fielder. I don’t agree with signing Pujols for 8 years but maybe 5. I must mention that I like Fielder I would rather go with Pujols because it will be great to see him break all the records in a few years. the article stated that Prince has been healthier for a big guy. In 3 year all that weight is going to catch up to him and he will start breaking down faster. I am still laughing at how good of a manger Quade is.

by lshaffer_69 on Aug 25, 2011 9:31 AM CDT reply actions

Didn't write it.

And Friedman may be the #1 most wanted but he is not the #1 candidate. Rumors in the TB area state he may have an ownership stake in the team and he may only consider going to Houston. All of this is in “rumor” stage anyway but he is not the #1 candidate. Far from it.

Wow just wow

You lost me with the mid 90’s website design – but I did slug through to this gem:

“He’s only been out managed [a] few times”

Mr. Mitchell maybe you should stick to being a Rays fan.

Sorry Brother

I did not mean to suggest that you did, but you are a contributor to the web page right? And if you did not want to come off as in agreement with the article it might be helpful to state that when commenting after the link. Here’s hoping you’re not as out of touch as your fellow author Charlie.

But, I kinda get where you might be coming from, assuming like the rest of us you have figured out that Charlie Nehl is not much of a sports writer – it might be to your advantage to post one of this blithering articles for others to mock. Excellent.

I actually agree with most of the article stating that changes need to be made and that Cubs fans should rejoice with Hendry out.

Now, as far as Quade goes, I don’t watch a lot of Cubs games and didn’t realize he was such a bad, or hated, manager.

I have read Charlie’s work on the site and on Yahoo and liked it. I posted it hear to see what Cubs fans thought of the team and the people running it. But realizing that Cubs fans have been mocked for a long time I can see why all you have done is mock the one point you do not agree with and negelct the rest of his article. To each their own, though.

by jcmitchell on Aug 25, 2011 10:51 AM CDT up reply actions

You got it. Because that's what I do.

Check all the other SB nation sites. First fanshot. Wanted to see what other Cubs fans thought.

Also, you’re telling me Cubs fans aren’t the butt-end of jokes? It wasn’t a malicious comment at all. Cubs fans get hell all the time. Just like Rays fans do and Red Sox fans used to.

by jcmitchell on Aug 25, 2011 11:02 AM CDT up reply actions

Actually I don't think that Cub fans have been mocked as much as

I think it has been more the team and management that has been the butt of most of the jokes.

by LT on Aug 25, 2011 6:36 PM CDT up reply actions

No.

Management is rarely criticized by the national media. The local media in the last dozen years or so has gotten the pitchforks out toward the management. Bristol and Fox rarely call management out for ignoring the farm system.

This is why I don’t mind Bobby Valentine’s comment. He was specific, on point, and accurate. No need to talk about curses or a century of frustration when your SS isn’t watching the play.

As to talking about 1908, they can stuff that somewhere private unless they want to discuss why Don Young was expected to be the sole CF in 1969.

I'm a Cubs fan. The Jaded Bitterness comes as a Standard Feature.

Its really bad.....

maybe if we get maddon they would be happy with Quade….

i am guessing not.

Who is "they?"

One person wrote this and if you read the first paragraph he says he is a Cubs fan. Not sure where the Rays fan came in to play with the writer.

by jcmitchell on Aug 25, 2011 9:50 AM CDT up reply actions

Ok. fair enough.....

But I wonder who would want to swap managers?

by TJ11 on Aug 25, 2011 9:53 AM CDT up reply actions

Definitley not the Rays! Haha!

I don’t want the Cubs taking my GM either. It’s rumored Friedman might have a stake in the Rays like Billy Beane does the A’s so I see it unlikely he goes anywhere other than Houston.

Looked at the comments on here and decided not worth my time to read

Incompetant writing

Quade is overmatched. The end.

by LT on Aug 25, 2011 10:08 AM CDT reply actions

here's my favorite paragraph....i'll disect.

As a baseball mind, he’s up there with the best. yeah. Quade and Connie Mack and like peas and carrots.
Prior to the managing the Cubs, he managed almost 2,000 games in the minors, so managing a ball club is nothing new to him. This is kind of like having the all time minor league home run record.
He gets on his players when they’re not playing well a la the benching of Castro earlier this week. should read “Gets on his Player when he is not playing well”
I sure hope he finishes out his contract, and helps these younger players coming up in the next two season. Ugh. really? I guess you wrote this stupid article you must believe it.
In the end, he’s going to be the rebuilding coach (No he wont), and probably won’t have a good win/loss record as the Cubs manager (Already doesnt), but he’ll have laid a lot of the ground work for the seasons to come . I would imagine that after Quade will be another big name manager. If he’s so great at being the savior of this franchise why not keep him as the manager?

Mr. Nehl, what you just wrote is one of the most

Insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent article, were you even close to anything that could me considered a rational thought. Everyone on this blog is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

why we can't have nice things.

It’s posts like these that cause most mainstream folks to think that the majority of bloggers are 20- or 30-somethings living in their parents’ basement and typing posts in their underwear.

Nice job of tagging the names, though…. oh wait, the machine did that for you. Nevermind.

I think I speak for everyone here when I say, "Wait, what the hell are you talking about?"

Horribly written, juvenile article

Artciles like this are why blogs get a bad reputation. From the stupid crown superimposed on hendry’s head to the poorly written, bad grammar infested point of view, it has the effect of me wanting to keep Hendry just to spite guys like this. Please don’t try and build web traffic to this crappy site again by linking to it here ever again.
