Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers Preview, Saturday 8/27, 6:10 CT: The Series Continues
Honestly, I don't have a lot to say about this game. The Cubs are 21 games out of first place and have lost six of the seven games played at Miller Park so far this year, being outscored 39-20.
So instead, why not check out Derrek Lee's Chicago condo, which is now on the market:
Through a bank trust, Lee and his wife paid $787,500 in mid-2004 to buy the eight-room condo unit from the developer of the 16-story building, which was built in 2003. Features in the 12th-floor unit include 3 1/2 baths, two fireplaces, hardwood floors throughout, three private terraces and a master suite with custom walk-in closets and spa bathroom.
The article says the real estate agent is Julie Bouchard. Here is Bouchard's only listing at Realtor.com. I'm not 100% sure that's the unit -- but if it is, it looks really nice. If you can't afford it, just check out the photos.
Cubs lineup:
Castro SS, Barney 2B, Ramirez 3B, Pena 1B, Colvin RF, Byrd CF, Soriano LF, Soto C, Dempster P
Brewers lineup:
Hart rf, Morgan cf, Braun lf, Fielder 1b, McGehee 3b, Betancourt ss, Hairston 2b, Lucroy c, Gallardo p

Ryan Dempster has made two starts against the Brewers this year. The one at Wrigley Field was excellent. The one in Milwaukee was slightly less so, but still decent, even though the Cubs lost the game. Current Brewers are hitting just .226 (56-for-148) against him and he's even held Ryan Braun (.227) and Prince Fielder (.244) down pretty well. Maybe the Cubs have a shot tonight.
The Cubs hit Yovani Gallardo pretty well on April 10 at Miller Park, but the Brewers won anyway. At Wrigley Field on June 14, Gallardo shut down the Cubs for seven innings, but the Cubs won anyway. In short, who knows? Geovany Soto is 5-for-18 vs. Gallardo with two home runs.
Today's game is on WGN and WMLW in Milwaukee. Here is the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.

Today's first pitch thread will be up at 6:10 p.m. CDT and the overflow threads will post at 7:15 pm, 8:15 pm and 9 pm CDT. If you need more overflows due to extra innings, post them in the fanshot section.

Just curious 2 earned runs in 6 innings
Is " not very good", but three earned runs in 6 innings is decent!
Marilyn Monroe "yogi your a pretty cool guy"
Berra " Marilyn you ain't so hot yourself"!
Just like how Randy Wells is "relatively young"
And Brian LaHair is old. Isn’t it obvious?
Cripes.
Randy Wells has already had major league success. Bryan LaHair hasn’t. If he were that good, why has he been in Triple-A for six years?
Join us for complete MLB coverage at SB Nation's Baseball Nation
How much "success" though?
A hot start or two, or even a great spring, doesn’t mean that he is capable of long term success.
Errr what?
He won 12 games with a 3.05 ERA in 2009.

I forgot, we must be in 2010 now, for those stats to hold water.
Remind me again, of Barry Zito’s stats right before the SF deal?
Barry Zito's stats were very impressive. Remind me what the hell your point is?
You asked how much success Randy Wells has had. The answer is, AN ENTIRE SEASON’S WORTH
That is a whole other season more than LaHair. I don’t even understand what the “hot start or great spring” comment is regarding.
Never mind that Wells is the same age as LaHair (or close to it) and has had three full seasons in the bigs.
Their situations aren’t remotely comparable

The point is, we can compare the past all we want.
One season in the major’s doesn’t translate into a lasting career of success.
Then it's a good thing that's not what Al said.

Besides, Wells 2009 success is relative to the teams he pitched against.
If you throw 3 games against the Astros and throw 14 2/3 shutout innings, of course if you will have a low ERA.
Those are major league teams right? I mean other pitchers lost to them.....right?
This whole line of argument is about as asinine as you can get.
Wells had a good year in 2009. Only an idiot would actually try and claim he didn’t

When almost 1/5 of your season's starts are against the Astros and the '09 Brewers
and you carry an ERA lower than 1.0 with those, then it is skewed,
He would have had to have been terrible against everyone else to not have a decent year.
I wish all the cubs starters had a 1.0 era against the pirates, brewers, and Astros!
Marilyn Monroe "yogi your a pretty cool guy"
Berra " Marilyn you ain't so hot yourself"!
Agreed.
His 2010 season was still “ok”. He’s a decent starter in the majors.
I think if LaHair played the outfield (well), he’d be somewhat interesting. I think he deserves a shot at some playing time in September. Maybe he could be a power bat off the bench for us next year.

By no means am I hating on Wells
But we only have singles hitters on the bench, Pena is going to be 34 next year, and LaHair is hitting more homeruns than anyone on our team can hope to get to this season. I think he deserves a chance to show if it translates or not. We have an influx of 1B coming up through the minors now, and I think LaHair should be allowed to sink or swim.
Yes and the reason he's hitting those homers is because he's not facing major league pitching
I find it absolutely hilarious that in one breath you’re claiming that Wells stats in 2009 didn’t count because he got to pitch against bad MAJOR LEAGUE teams while in the other breath arguing that LaHair should be up here because he’s such a great hitter IN THE MINORS

"Manny Trillo is coming in to pinch run. You know, for a lot of teams, you would pinch run FOR Manny Trillo." - Harry Caray
If the PCL was a hitter's paradise, everyone would be up at 30 homeruns.
He’s got a hot bat, why not see if it translates? That is all. I make nothing more of it. You guys seem way too allergic to this guy.
Nope
Just allergic to your line of reasoning:
Wells stats aren’t trustworthy because it was against 1/5 bad MLB teams and he sucks too.
while
LeHair should be great because he is hitting well in AAA. Bring him up and start him now!
You have to pick one. You can’t take one and ditch the other.
"Manny Trillo is coming in to pinch run. You know, for a lot of teams, you would pinch run FOR Manny Trillo." - Harry Caray
No, I am saying a 3.06 ERA isn't exactly "huge success"
the same way people rip on Ramirez hitting “meaningless” homeruns.
Bring him up to see what success he can have here because right now he deserves a chance to prove whether or not he belongs.
I agree...
and if he hits, say .140, then we get rid of him like Colv…oh, wait…never mind.
Good job, Tom...now on to the manager problem.
If we gave LaHair all of September and he hit .140
I’d probably cut him. He is worth at least the look in September though.
Yep...
starting Sept. 1st, LaHair and Jackson should be playing everyday. Pena can PH…Byrd and Soriano can take turns sitting games out. The month of September should be viewed as Spring Training, of sorts.
Good job, Tom...now on to the manager problem.
Agreed
If LaHair does well, we know we have a cheap power bat for the bench next year, if not, move on.
this whole debate
reminds of a few years ago when some people thought Micah Hoffpauir should have been starting over DLee
by Madison Cub Fan on Aug 27, 2011 5:24 PM CDT up reply actions
Not even close...
D. Lee was still under contract a few years ago and he was going to be the 1B the next year. Pena’s contract is up. There is no one guaranteed to be 1B for 2012. LaHair should be given a shot.
Good job, Tom...now on to the manager problem.
this team is absoutely screwed if lahair is the starting 1b next year

We can't do that
we have a first
Baseman who we pay 10 million dollars to, and he hits .165 with risp! No way could Lahair possibly have a chance in hell to outdo that! And for 1/20th the money!
Marilyn Monroe "yogi your a pretty cool guy"
Berra " Marilyn you ain't so hot yourself"!
It doesn't really matter that LaHair has hit alot of HRs in AAA..
Especially since he’s been in that league for a while. Hitting HRs in AAA and hitting them in the MLB are two different things and aren’t mutually exclusive. I do agree Bryan could be a quality bench bat.

Fwiw Al
I think your probably right about lahair, and I surely would rather see a minor leaguer right now than Lopez, but I think your being a little unfair too both of them.
Marilyn Monroe "yogi your a pretty cool guy"
Berra " Marilyn you ain't so hot yourself"!
And Joe buck has been an announcer for years with "success"
doesn’t mean there isn’t someone better waiting for a shot.
This is 99% sarcasm:)
Marilyn Monroe "yogi your a pretty cool guy"
Berra " Marilyn you ain't so hot yourself"!
I'm gonna take a shot or 2 at that answer...
why has he been in Triple-A for six years?
Ummm…piss-poor management? Maybe D. Lee was there? Or the crazy idea of Tyler Colvin becoming a legit 1B? Or Jeff Baker?
Put LaHair at 1B come Sept. 1st…if he doesn’t cut it there for the last month…release him. If he’s dead weight, like you say, Al, then why is he still in the organization? Just roster fill? That ridiculous. Package him this off season in some trade, but, he needs to be up AND playing. We’re not gonna catch the Pirates NOR are we gonna catch the Astros…have not one thing to lose (except games…and they were doing that pretty well without LaHair) by playing him starting next week.
Good job, Tom...now on to the manager problem.

You guys know I have a man crush on D Lee..
But, maybe when we lost him, we lost more than an aging former All Star. Maybe he was the leader that should be mentoring Castro. He was quiet but he was a leader in a lot of ways.
