Berkman clears waivers, prefers to stay in St. Louis

I'd love to see the Cubs pursue him as I'd rather see Berkman at 1B in 2012 as opposed to Pena if the Cubs don't go after Albert or Prince. That said, it likely would be tough, as it's doubtful the Cards would trade him within the division. One month shouldn't be that costly, but the Cards will likely ask for more if they're trading him within the division. The Cubs should also attempt to negotiate an extension if the Cards are willing to trade him. The other option is to pursue Berkman in the offseason. He signed with the Cardinal for 1 yr, $8M and will likely command more next year.
