I agree.
What a bush league thing for Davidson to do, but that’s his MO.
For the most part, the officiating in all major sports is pretty lame. Bill McCreary used to screw the Blackhawks all night. Overall, I think baseball umpiring is getting worse and worse every year, and I don’t know why. You would think that the possibility of replay coming to MLB (when Selig croaks/retires) would spur them to be better.
Doesn’t it always seem that the most blatant bad calls are the ones withing spitting distance of the umpire? They have the best view and blow them.
Fire Jim Hendry. Injuries aren't the problem.
Nah...the umpiring isn't getting worse...
the super slow-motion video, the “K” Zone, and the HUMUNGOUS jumbotrons showing it all, ARE getting better. However, I do agree some umpires make the game more about themselves, tho. Maybe a years service limit, say 25 years, or an age limit of 55 or 60?

This makes me feel sorry for a guy like Jim Joyce..
who, despite being universally lauded and respected throughout the league, will always be remembered for that one call. The guy received death threats, had trouble sleeping, broke down when apologizing to Galarraga, and even considered retirement.
Meanwhile, you have guys like Davidson, who consistently miss calls, insert themselves into games, and show complete indifference toward any accountability.
Bob Davidson just threw Al off the Interweb
That’s how powerful Bob Davidson is.

It's funny, but...
Why is he merely thinking that it’s all about him?
And furthermore, why is he thinking it from his mouth?

That was the most un-animated manager/ump discussion ever.
What on earth deserved an ejection there?
Apparently
turning your back to Bob Davidson is like turning your back to the emperor. That’s all I can figure.

Trust me. I feel like Davidson was completely out of line last night....
However, we don’t know what was said. Quade doesn’t necessarily have to be animated in his discussion. He could have been arguing the strike zone which never goes over well. Davidson might have told him the strike zone is what it is and thats that. If Quade kept at it, animated or not, he’s gone.
I was at the game so I couldn’t see the balls and strikes. I’ll take everyones word that it was bad.

My three all-time least favorite ups are Davidson, West, and Bruce Froemming
and all because of their over the top belligerence. Any of them would follow a player just to start a fight. Lightning quick to take their mask off to make a show, the whole bit.

The question tho is...wait for it......................
…………does Tom Ricketts approve?

Good question and
is there any thing or anyone the organization can complain to about last nights game?
Be the kind of woman that when your feet hit the ground each morning the devil says, "OH CRAP, SHE'S UP"!
That is what I was wondering....They all seem to cower to the Umpires union.....When they broke it a few years ago, I thought baseball did way to much to bring some of those guys back.
I think those guys all tend to close ranks to protect their own
The strike zone last night was a total joke. I’d like to have watched BB get disgusted, though!

how anyone can be thrown out while walking back to the dugout is beyond me
the Quade one was especially egregious. the situation was over…until Davidson decided it wasn’t. he’s a joke.
There is no problem.
If there was, Bud would ‘fix’ it.
I'm a Cubs fan. The Jaded Bitterness comes as a Standard Feature.
Then the zone
would shrink more????

Maybe..............
Quade’s nickname for Davidson did not sit well with him………..
Babs, perhaps?

We do know he has nicknames for umpires.
He used one last week.
Wonder what he calls CB Bucknor?

How
Are the umpires selected for the post season? Is it on merit, tenure, or some kind of rotation basis? Does anybody know for sure?

Thought BB was going to lose it last night
but even if he did, he was still dead.nuts.on with his assessment of this psycho ump.
I can see Bob Davidson being the Tim Peel or Bill McCreary of MLB. Just absolutely going out of their way to inject themselves in the action.
Just win the next game...!
I used to love to watch
Dutch Rennert! He was a showman, but he never followed guys back to the dugout that I ever saw. He was just very animated about all of his calls behind the plate. I think he really enjoyed his work.
Davidson isn’t fit to shine Rennert’s shoes!
"I lof to hit de home ron!"
Ah, for the days of
Chris Pelekoudas.
Davidson, West, Bucknor and Hernandez can ride a one-way ticket to the Midwest League, for all I care.
At least Froemming retired. The league got better automatically because of that.

Any ump who pulls that stuff should be suspended without pay
Colvin did exactly what a player should do in that case, turn your back and walk away. That he was saying something (unless he said one of the magic words) is irrelevant. He was walking away, so he was not trying to show Davidson up. Davidson on the other hand, clearly was trying to show up Colvin by stalking him. Obviously Davidson is a very insecure ump, because a good ump let’s the player walk away.
