Sounds like
Bob Nightengale read Phil Poger’s column this morning.
Disclosure: I do not have access to Twitter here at work and I do not know what Nightengale posted.

You & I were posting at the same time, you beat me by a minute.
But I agree with you. Here’s the tweet:
#mlb #Cubs owner Tom Ricketts is making shrewd move waiting to see if talented Theo Epstein becomes available w 1 yr left on #RedSox deal.
Says nothing, actually, other than it’s very likely from reading Rogers.

Wasn't Nightengale...
… the guy who tweeted that Jim Hendry was going to be staying around, only a day or so before the firing was announced?
This is clearly a reaction to the Phil Rogers article in the Tribune today (sorry, I’m not going to bother linking it, because it’s the usual Rogers nonsense) in which he speculates that Tom Ricketts is somehow “waiting” for Epstein, without a shred of evidence other than he thinks so.
Move along, nothing to see here.

Yeah, he calls it a "shrewd move"
I guess maybe I didn’t read it right, he maybe is just reacting to the Rogers article.
Tom would be wise to at least
wait to make a decision until he gets a chance to talk to Epstein
If nothing else it gives us chance #543,672,980 to talk about Epstein becoming our GM

I think this is more Red Sox Nation panicking
Their lead in the WC is down to 3.5 games with 17 to play and they think the sky is falling. Now they’re convinced their GM is going to leave too. It would be funny if it weren’t so “Cub fan” of them. Even two World Series wins can’t beat that anticipation of doom out of them. I hope we’re better after we win our second World Series.
Rogers’ article has changed my mind from thinking there was a 100% chance that Epstein would stay with the Red Sox to a 99.5% chance that he stays with the Red Sox.
Maybe the most interesting aspect of Roger's article
Is where it says we are at. If Roger’s is correct, Ricketts has a list and has probably interviewed some candidates. But he has not interviewed any sitting GMs yet. Or at least not one’s with playoff asperations for 2011.
This may take awhile.

I highly doubt if we have a GM before Nov 1

I disagree.
The Cubs org. meetings start in mid-October. I cannot imagine Tom Ricketts not wanting someone in place by then.
Nightengale’s tweet, like Rogers’ article, sound like speculation. There’s very little real information in either one.
To paraphrase Josh, Rogers’ article has changed my mind from thinking there was a 100% chance that Epstein would stay with the Red Sox to a 100% chance that he stays with the Red Sox. (IOW, no change at all.)

You’re saying this without a shred of evidence.
Nothing to see here, move along

He used the word Imagine
I don’t think he needs proof for that.

Exactly.
Yes, it’s my guess. But at least I labeled it as such.

No evidence...
but it’s based on common sense. No point to having organizational meetings… without someone doing the organizing.

But, that would be an interesting meeting to be at without a GM
Tom Ricketts: “Hmmmm. What’s on the agenda? Oh, that’s all baseball stuff isn’t it? Well, let’s get another report from Todd on the new Spring Training facility. And then Crane can give us the Year Three ticket prices. This is gonna be a great meeting. Who wants another donut?”

Depends...
…who Ricketts is after. If it is someone who will be in the playoffs, you could be absolutely right. If not, I’m going to guess the guy will be in place within 7-10 days after the season ends.

I actually had a dream last night
that Ricketts hired a relief pitcher from the Cleveland Indians as the new GM. I kept thinking it was a dream but it was in the Chicago Tribune, so it had to be true.
Did your dreams think Kerry still pitched for the Indians?

Can't remember the name
But I just remember being nervous about coming on this board and seeing the reaction.

I actually had a dream the other night where I was named Cubs GM.
It was pretty sweet.
Pat Riley is the devil.
Theo Epstein is hands down the best candidate...
…based purely on looks. Check out this handsome son of a gun:
g tha
He’s better looking than Brad Pitt — and Theo is a GM in real life!
Baseball is pitching, offensive production, baserunning and defense.
I guess Ben Affleck will play Theo when he gets his movie.

He comes from a family of dramatists.
His grandfather was a screenwriter and one of the writers of Casablanca. His dad is an author.
Time to craft some stories with this northside cast of characters and bring some drama (the best kind) to Chicago.
In other news Ricketts reportedly expressed interest in buying the Mona Lisa
and getting 1 billion in government funds to build a new ball park and demolish all housing in a 3 block radius for Wrigleyland theme park. I believe the odds of those happening are the same as Theo leaving Boston ( and Boston letting him go).

Me either
Is M. Lisa left handed?
