How incredibly vague
Muskat at her finest!

A little more info in a second tweet from her:
Vitters listed as OF on AFL roster. The move does not mean Jackson coming to #Cubs; he has another commitment. More later

'Another commitment'?
Where have you gone, Kiko Calero. A nation turns its lonely eyes to you.
Demoting him for the AA playoffs?
I honestly have no idea what is going on here.
Ha, that's what went through my mind too.
They want him to see a winning team to end the year.
Muskat "No callup, no injury for Jackson. Something else came up and will be announced later. It's all good."
I have no idea what this could be. Demotion to AA, as RR posited? If it’s “all good”, it’s not a trade, most likely.

is there some team USA thing thig year?

Yep...
World Cup starts Oct. 1 in Panama. US is looking for a three-peat.

That would seem the most likely destination.

I saw that.
Wasn’t that already reported somewhere?

No, I meant ...
that this was reported a few days ago, someplace else.

Especially since they're putting him in the OF in the AFL
It would seem that, if they wanted Vitters to be the replacement for Ramirez next year, they’d have him as a 3B in the AFL.
Maybe they will try Soriano at 3rd and Vitters in LF
That should get them down to 50 wins on the season
Vitters need the AFL
a lot more than Jackson does. Jackson is ready to play in the majors. Vitters is not.

I think Jackson could still use some more seasoning in the minors, but I think he'd be successful in the majors.
I’d really like to see him get the K rate below 25% before we call him up, but I know strikeouts are just a part of his game we’ll always have to live with.
Jackson is going to camp colvin instead
he’s going to bulk up, be really huge, and play 1B next year. He’ll be huge and awesome.
He's going to be caught in a gamma bomb explosion
And turn into the Hulk every time someone throws him a curveball.
Actually, their trying this weird cross DNA experiment
with Vitters and Jackson. Vitters will take on Jackson’s ability to take a walk, and Jackson will suddenly be immune to strikeouts. Somehow the skills will meld for the two, resulting in two super-hitters.
Vitters needs it more
I haven’t given up on Vitters as some have. He is young, and he’s had trouble staying healthy. This could be a good step in progressing for him. As others have said, and I’ve seen in person, Jackson doesn’t need the AFL. He won’t learn anything new. He needs a spot to play in next year.
Not officially
but the rumor is that he’s going to play for Team USA in the IBAF Baseball World Cup and the Pan-Am Games. That team will be named in the next week or so.
That's a great honor for him.
Good luck to him, and that may be another reason why the Cubs aren’t calling him up this month.

I doubt that had to do with not calling him up.
This had to be pretty recent as they had planned to send him to the AFL anyway. They wouldn’t have announced he was going to the AFL if they knew he was going to play in the IBAF World Cup.
True.
Either way, maybe they wanted him to have September off.

I'm guessing it's more due to keeping roster flexibility and delaying his arb clock
I can’t imagine that he’d prefer time off to a September MLB call-up.
Using LaHair in the OF is part of it too
by doing that, they can say “well, we’ve got 6 OF already with three LF bats, and 3 CF options.”
Not that I agree with said statement, but I can envision that being the rationale.
I don't think September counts towards arb
but it would mean putting him on the 40 man before they had to. And they’ve got several people they have to protect from Rule 5 this offseason.

Well the way I see it
They could easily promote Jackson and then open another 40-man spot by trading Byrd. But that would commit the Cubs to going with Jackson next April, and that would push up his arb clock.
Pat Riley is the devil.
