I am sure it was posted in the game thread...just too lazy to go look through it.
Bob Brenly on Leo Nunez "Dan Uggla just saved Nunez’ life because Koyie would break him into a million pieces"
WOW!
Figured Al would be all over that…wait, he is at the game, never mind

Heh.
Someone sent me a tweet asking me if I think the Cubs should still go after him.
I’m thinking no at this point. I was wrong about Kila, apparently.

Wrong about LaHair?
WAY too early to make that judgment.

Ka'aihue's home state of Hawaii...
…was mentioned in the pre-game thread, so…there was that.
Baseball is pitching, offensive production, baserunning and defense.
I'd rather take a look at LaHair
At this point. Unless a trade occurs, or Carlos Pena agrees to take less money (Not serious).
I agree with you,
Ka’aihue’s only a year younger and has posted similar career minor league numbers. I like what I’ve seen from LaHair though. Although, if the Cubs let Pena walk and don’t go after Fielder or Pujols, I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to bring in some one like Ka’aihue to compete with LaHair or someone else for a roster spot in ST.

Though I retch as I say it
I think Pena is coming back.
I'm all for
offering Peeeen-Ya arbitration. If he accepts, we have a usable 1B if all else fails. If he declines, we get a pick.
I'm a Cubs fan. The Jaded Bitterness comes as a Standard Feature.
Agreed.
People focus too much sometimes at Pena’s BA. He’s posted an .826 OPS, drawn almost 100 walks, and played plus defense, besides being a good clubhouse presence.
Let’s say Fielder/Pujols costs $20m a year (it could be more). Pena might cost half that. You could spend the rest on pitching. That’s what needs to be fixed.

I think they need
at least one big bat added to the lineup, and probably 2 if Ramirez leaves. If Pena stays, I guess he’s an ok number 5 hitter. But we still need another middle of the order hitter or two, and I don’t know where they come from. Matt Kemp maybe?
DEJESUS!!!
Agreed.
With A-Ram likely leaving, our offense is pathetic. We have to get a big bat in. And despite the fact that I’m against super-contracts for Pujols and Fielder, we need to go set some above-average hitters for the middle of our lineup if we stand a chance at competing.
I truly doubt we’ll ever see Kemp in a Cubs uniform, though.
This
Exactly. Plus, LaHair is the Cubs version of Kila.

I'm open to that
but which pitchers? Wilson will undoubtedly go to the Yanks or Sox. Buerhle might be a good alternative if he doesn’t want to go home to St. Louis.
The problem is that if you bring Pena back you can't afford to add another big bat, especially if you pay for more pitching.
Considering that Pena is probably better suited as a six hitter and the fact that Ramirez plans on testing the market, that leaves a huge black hole in the 3-4-5 spots next year. We just have too many holes to spend 10+ mil x 2-3 years for a six hitter.
It's too late for the Cubs...
Al already put a claim in for him.
The one year difference between him and LaHair makes all the difference in the world!

I was covering the Omaha Royals a couple of years ago for another site, and so watched him play every home game
He was a very good looking player in AAA. He was essentially the Jake Fox of the Royals’ organization
Which means that...
…Kila will be a fine player for a Japanese team.

In ST this year
he hit probable one of the biggest home runs I have ever seen. Not counting Sosa and the steroid era

Further proving why it was a good idea never to trade for him.
If the man can’t make the Royals, then he must not be living up to the hype.
Viva la Cubs Révolution!!!
I'm not sure he can't make the Royals
But the Royals developed two other 1B ahead of him. Billy Butler has been around for a few years, and Eric Hosmer showed more in ST. It doesn’t mean Kila is useless, though it does hurt his chances going forward. I’m sure some lousy team will give him the ABs to see if he can play.
No.
Hosmer is a bonafied, legit, young, pseudo-All-Star first basemen in the making. Go look at his numbers, playing only about 2/3 of the season. He’s a monster for a young guy.
