Ugh...
good for them. On a positive note, that should stop Pena thinking he can get more than what he got this year. If Berkman’s only worth $12m…

That's a big insurance policy.
Blocks the young man Craig from playing if Pujol’s comes back. When healthy Berkman was effective. But, that’s the rub. He’s past the point where you can count on good health.
so is this saying to Pujols...
we’ve got someone who can handle first and is quality…here’s some money, take it if you really want to be a Cardinal?
So i you can give you can take it.
There won't be nothing "free" about it...
…Pass on Pujols. I’m hopin’ the new GM doesn’t take every dime this team has freed up and tie it into one superstar. Pujols AND this same team, minus A-Ram, is STILL a 75 win team.
"When I came up to bat with three men on and two outs in the ninth, I looked in the other team's dugout and they were already in street clothes." - Bob Uecker
I agree....Pujols will not fix everything.
It would be fun to watch a GM spend money wisely…..
By the way, I believe Pena will get himself as far away from here as possible.
I doubt that a one-year offer to Berkman gives St Louis any more leverage with Pujols
Considering that Pujols is a superior player and will be getting a lot more years on his contract.
If anything it instead suggests “we’re still going to be serious about fielding a competitive team around you.”
