Chicago Cubs vs. San Diego Padres Preview, Monday 9/26, 9:05 CT: 'Kids Day'
Mike Quade has promised us "Kids Day" for tonight's game against the Padres; complete lineup below.
What you might not recall is that he had a game designated like this a year ago, September 19, 2010 against the Marlins. That "kids lineup" blasted the Fish 13-3. You might also recall it as the game where Tyler Colvin got hit in the chest by a piece of Welington Castillo's broken bat. Neither of those men has had a good year; Castillo is injured and so didn't get a September callup, and Colvin has had an awful season.
It would be nice if the "kids" (quotes because some of them aren't really that young) could have a similar game in San Diego tonight.
Cubs lineup:
Campana CF, Barney 2B, Castro SS, Peña 1B, LaHair LF, Clevenger C, LeMahieu 3B, Colvin RF, Coleman P
Padres lineup:
Venable RF, Bartlett SS, Guzman 1B, Hundley C, Maybin CF, Headley 3B, Hudson 2B, Hermida LF, Latos P

Casey Coleman has one career start against the Padres, August 18, 2010 at Wrigley Field. It didn't go so well. However, a lot of the Padres who played in that game are no longer with the team, particularly Adrian Gonzalez, who homered and scored three runs that day off Coleman. So perhaps, in the pitcher's paradise that is Petco Park, Coleman can finish 2011 on a high note.
Mat Latos did not face the Cubs at Wrigley Field earlier this year. Last year, he started twice against them; one of them was this 10-strikeout gem on August 19, 2010 at Wrigley. The Cubs beat him on September 28, 2010 in San Diego in a game that included a homer off Latos by Alfonso Soriano.
Today's game is on WGN and CH4 San Diego. It is the 60th and final telecast of the season on WGN. Here is the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.

Pena?

Hey fellow masochists. Good to be back.
I went to Mexico because my grandmother died. I’ve read I didn’t miss anything of substance.

Sorry for your loss.

Castillo actually had a good year Al.
He tore up AAA pitching this year, just because he got injured in late August and missed a call-up doesn’t mean he has had a bad year.
So which network idiot
Decided to put the final game of the season on WCIU, where a total of 28 people will be able to watch??? Ugh.

Rest in peace, Ronnie. You will always be in my Hall of Fame.
Can you imagine
If that game actually meant something?
Of course, in that case they’d probably move it to WGN.

Not Likely
Shows are still premiering on CW. So, no games on Channel 9/Chicago, therefore — no game on WGN America.
WGN/Chicago can’t pre-empt CW shows this week. They just can’t.

That's The Chicago Way SDSJM!
They do as they please! Many times CW has re-aired “premiers/major episodes” for sports events.

Fortunately (?) these West Coast games
start so late that I really only havta worry about the possibility of the last game of the year being on early enough to watch. (OMG! What IF these were meaningful games?!)

Castro in the 3 hole
haven’t we seen enough of that
oops don't know what that was supposed to mean
I’d like to see Castro second, with Jackson leading off.
That may happen,
does he have enough patience to hit second. I think his aggressive nature lends itself to being a #3 hitter. He just need more maturity and someone to hit behind him.
But he walks a ton too.
And having Castro hitting behind him, a guy who doesn’t K at high rates, would make the Ks more tolerable.
Almost bedtime for us old sh!ts...
Nite All! Go Cubs Go!

If any of these games break 20K I'll be surprised.
I am going (reluctantly) tomorrow night.
