AL Division Series, Day 1: Yankees vs. Tigers, Rangers vs. Rays

NEW YORK -- I'm in NYC for non-SB Nation related business; the timing is perfect, because it allows me to attend Game 1 of the Yankees/Tigers series at Yankee Stadium tonight. The pitching matchup, CC Sabathia vs. Justin Verlander, should be outstanding. I had been to the old Yankee Stadium many times, but this will be my first visit to the new one. I'll post my impressions of it along with a recap tomorrow morning, and tomorrow there will also be a thread for the four games to be played Saturday.

Pitchers for the Rangers/Rays opener, which will be the first postseason game: Matt Moore, who has made exactly one major league start, for the Rays, and C.J. Wilson for the Rangers. Could be an interesting late afternoon in Texas, with shadows likely to play a role.

Unrelated note: I have received several emails from people who say the countdown clock on the right sidebar says "2011". Mine says 2012 and I had a couple of other people check and they said the same thing. I'd suggest clearing your browser cache and looking again.

After the jump, more info on today's games.

4 pm CDT for Rangers/Rays. Don Orsillo (play-by-play) and Buck Martinez (analyst) will call the action with Jaime Maggio as a reporter.

7:30 pm CDT for Yankees/Tigers. Brian Anderson (play-by-play) will call the game alongside Ron Darling (analyst) and John Smoltz (analyst) with Tom Verducci as a reporter.
