Brewers Claim Jeff Bianchi On Waivers From Cubs
As Carrie Muskat's tweet says, this probably opens the 40-man roster spot for Paul Maholm.

Waived by the Royals and the Cubs a month apart? Ouch.

Life's a Bianchi.

How desperate
is Milwaukee for middle infielders? If starting Yuni didn’t tell you.
10-25-2011. Theo Epstein joins the Cubs. Now, the fun begins.
Crap
Now my Jeff Bianchi Cubs jersey is out of date.

Look out NL Central.

Mine was still in route...it was on back order at Christmas......Coudn't make them fast enough!!!
I guess its just a throwback jersey now
So at the very least
we need some middle infield depth. Castro, then Barney then Lake are the only possible SS on the roster. NRI for Miguel Tejada? Could be a good back-up, role model for Castro.

Jonathan Mota could probably fill in
in the extreme off-chance that BOTH Castro and Barney are unavailable. Although the FO would probably just sign a Cesar Izturis type to man the position until one of the others returns.
I'm not sure all that many teams carry
more than 3 guys who can play SS on the 40 man.
If Castro were injured long-term, a subsequent move would be made.
The Cubs’ middle infield depth is fine (relatively speaking) as is.

I can't remember was he with the Cubs longer or shorter than Infante?
The bottom is loaded with nice people, Albert. Only cream and bastards rise
Shorter
Infante was with the Cubs less than one month (11/12/07 through 12/4/07), Bianchi was with the Cubs slightly more than one month (12/9/11 through today).

Garrett Olson was with the Cubs for 10 days.
Acquired January 18, 2009 from Baltimore for Felix Pie.
Sent to Mariners January 28, 2009 for Aaron Heilman.
That worked out well, didn’t it?

Sigh, Garrett Olson had so much promise.
Snark intended.
We'll miss you Big Boy. #10 is going into the Hall of Fame!!
He had over a week to impress.
True, there were no games then, but that’s splitting hairs.

Wasn't he supposed
to be part of a deal for someone—Peavy maybe?
Doesn't this go in the mythical thread?

so we were going to trade him for Merlin
and somehow got Heilman instead?
Q: Why did Theo Epstein cross the road?
A: To Dump Garza
As I recall...
…the pitchers acquired in the DeRo trade were mythically intended to be traded for Peavy. Stevens and Gaub, I think.

And Olson was going to be put in that deal, too, IIRC.
